Joe Sinnott's grandson Dorian Sinnott has announced on Twitter that Joe Sinnott passed away today at the age of 93




IMO he was the best inker for Jack Kirby and will long be remembered for his work on the Fantastic Four. His first FF issue was #2 and he was the inker for most of the issues from 1962 until 1981 with various artists.

I always thought the Fantastic Four truly started firing on all cylinders only after Joe started inking Kirby full time (issue #44 onwards).

He was the man who gave the FF their look. Through Kirby, Buscema, Buckler, Perez, and others, there was Joe making Reed, Sue, Ben, and Johnny looking like themselves. His impact was fantastic.

Joe Sinnott was a legend among inkers. He was not only a great inker. He was one of several comic book artists that served their country in the WWII.

Following the death in action of his brother Jack, a member of the United States Army's Third Division, in 1944, Sinnott acceded to his mother's wishes not to be drafted into the Army himself, and he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in the autumn of that year.[7] After serving with the Seabees in Okinawa during World War II,[6] driving a munitions truck, he was discharged in May 1946[7] and awarded the Asiatic–Pacific Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Navy Occupation Service Medal.[5] ,

This patriotic gentleman drove a munitions truck in a war zone. That must be a dangerous job. The enemy could have ambushed his truck at any time. What a courageous man. Rest in peace.
