Default DC Next Dawn - July Solicits!

We present to you DC Next Dawn, a collection of all new fan-made issues on “sale” this month, JULY 2020!

What is “DC Next Dawn” and how does it work?

Next Dawn, previously known as “New Dawn,” is a fan fiction universe and solicitation game that has been in existence on the CBR boards for approximately ten years! It has gone through several iterations and has survived forum reboots! The way it works is that “plotters” write short solicitations for monthly comic books! Then participants “buy” the books they want to read! The books with the most buys get rewards. Sounds fun, right? So let’s do this! Which of this month's solicits interest and excite you? Let us know by posting which books you'd pick up in the virtual Next Dawn Store (this solicitation thread). You can pull as many as you'd like, but also consider your "virtual budget" when making your selections, as sales are used to reward our titles and plotters. Registers are open all month and sales are tallied at the end of the month.

Absolutely anyone can make purchases right here in this thread - so please do!. It’s free and is basically just saying “I’d read this” or “I like this!” So let us know!

If you want more information on Next Dawn or are interested in plotting yourself, please visit us at the Next Dawn Bullpen Thread.

    Behold! Our monthly archive!
This is the repository of our prior work; a compilation of all the monthly solicitation posts since the forum was reset in 2014.

The Green Lantern HQ world of Oa has already fallen before this swarm, and Starro’s next target… is Earth!
Yet Starro systematically weakens its targets before it invades by using spores to take control of a planet’s greatest champions, turning them against the planet they defended! And Starro has done that… to us! Many of our heroes have already been taken over by Starro. Can their friends stop them? Can Earth survive?
    The epic event begins here!!!

    DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE #11
    Plotted by Clark_Kent
    Written by Dan Jurgens
Art by Dan Jurgens & Jay Oliva
    "Krypton Rises" Part Four
Superman finds Faora near the Indian ocean, and finally discovers what she has been up to. Faora has been planting devices around the globe, devices which Superman recognizes as Kryptonian in origin. But where did she get them? Wasn't the Phantom Zone a still place, unmoving, where criminals were sent for cycles of reconditioning? There would be little time to ponder this though, as Faora spots him! She lets out a yell, and with vengeance in her eyes she flies into him, driving him down, down, down, straight into the water!
Meanwhile, near the Galapagos Islands, Arthur Curry and Mera were busy fighting a squad of Parademons! What were these creatures doing here? Hadn't the League turned them all away when Steppenwolf was defeated?
Finally, on the far distant planet of Apokolips, Diana and Victor have been prisoner to Darkseid. How much time has passed since they arrived? Days.....years? Time seemed to pass differently here, but Victor tried not to focus on that; he was more concerned that his left hand had almost slipped free of its bonds...

THE FLASH #12 *Starro Wars Tie-In*
    Plot by EXCITER
    Written by ROBERT KIRKMAN
    Art by FRANK CHO
“MY NAME IS STARRO AND I CONTROL THE FASTEST MAN ALIVE”
Talk about bad timing! The temporally displaced crew of wayward time-travelers, Barry Allen, Iris West, and Booster Hold, finally arrive back in 2020... only to be immediately attacked by Starro spores! Iris and Booster escape, but the Flash isn’t so lucky. Starro now controls the fastest man alive!
Flash Fact: Starfish do not have a circulatory system because they do not have a heart or blood that circulates nutrients. They are completely heartless...
A mind-controlled Barry could move fast enough to put a starfish spore on every single person on Earth in a manner of hours. All he needs is enough spores. Unfortunately for Earth, Booster’s robotic assistant Skeets detects a transgalactic carrier ship chock full of them en route. He and Iris have about three hours before it arrives, and with such little time they are left with no choice but to turn to the man who beat the Flash in their last encounter: the leader of the Rogues, Captain Cold!
Can Cold slow down the scarlet speedster in time to save his beloved City (and, by extension, his semi-beloved planet)?
Plus, the Rogues have gained a surprising new member since Iris last encountered them: Henry Allen?!? How did Barry’s recently-released-from-prison father fall in with this gang of super-powered ne’er-do-wells?

GREEN LANTERN #12 *Starro Wars Tie-In*
    Plot by EXCITER
    Written by MARK MILLAR
    Art by JOE MADUREIRA
    “NO RESISTANCE”
Attention friends! This is Ganthet, Guardian of the Universe, with an important message: All is well! The benevolent Starro the Peacemaker has arrived and is here to help! I ask you all to join Starro’s cause voluntarily, as Oa has, and to make your galaxy safe and secure!
The Green Lantern Corps has lost control of the Universe. Starro’s enormous fleet of mind-controlled minions has taken Oa, and now looks to Earth. Many Lanterns, and all the Guardians of the Universe, are under Starro’s control.
Worse still, unless the Central Battery can be set up somewhere safe, the remaining Green Lanterns can’t recharge their power rings... and it’s only a matter of time before they are all powerless. There’s only two possible locations defended well enough to even consider temporarily relocating the Battery... and neither option is good. Will John Stewart and Hal Jordan accept Mongul’s offer to host them on Warworld, or Guy Gardner’s offer to host them on the new Red Lantern HQ planet Gofuckyaself?
Meanwhile, the Martian Manhunter prepares to defend Earth as both a superhero and, in his human guise, the U.S. Director of Homeland Security! His telepathy enables him to locate individuals mentally dominated by Starro, but can even he act fast enough to prevent Starro from securing a foothold on the planet? Will he out himself as a Martian, sacrificing his secret identity, in order to save his adopted homeworld?
    32 PGs./Rated T+ …$2.99

    Written by Grant Morrison
    Art by Kenneth Rocafort
"The Slayer of Earth 4" part 7
The team has made their way to Vampire Batman's tower, deep in the heart of Necropolis. An air strike from above is impossible, the Justice Masters having prepared for such a plan long ago. Vicki leads the team straight through the front door instead.
As they climb the tower, they encounter many of Batman's allies: Vampiric Horrors like Harley Quinn, David Cain, and others. Mysteriously, the heavy hitters - Diana, Arthur, etc - are absent. With the combined might of the Supermen, these monsters are no match.
In the tower nest, Batman awaits. Vicki approaches him, vampire stake in hand, when suddenly a figure crashes through the wall! The Supermen turn to face him, Henshaw's eyes in particular narrowing at the sight of the new combatant...and as the moonlight falls through the opened wall, an Undead Kal-El's eyes turn red! Vampire Superman has arrived!

    OUTSIDERS #9
    Written by BRIAN BENDIS
    Plot by randomideaguy
    Art by STEVE RUDE
    "Couch Surfing"
Though Ra's al Ghul has been defeated, the Outsiders have had their headquarters burnt down. As a result, they are temporarily scattered.
    * Oliver Queen & Dinah Lance dress fancy and meet with the Queen Consolidated Board of Directors, hoping to gain funding for a new base of operations for the Outsiders. This request is denied. After some debate they decide this is a good thing - the team needs to "live among the people".
    * Benjamin Turner & Tatsu Yamashiro hole up in an abandoned martial arts dojo in the bad side of town. They re-open it and take on students, creating a safe neutral zone for kids to hang out away from gangs.
    * Jefferson Pierce & Helena Bertinelli shack up in a motel and perform reconnaissance on a local mafioso. Pierce counsels Helena through some anger issues and reveals his rudimentary Italian knowledge.
    * Interspersed with these stories are recurring background images of Blackfire, just hanging about. We eventually find that she crash landed here after saving the universe from the Electron Wave.
Her powers are on the fritz and she is experiencing a crisis of conscience after performing such a heroic act. She reluctantly bails Black Lightning & Huntress out of trouble while battling the mafioso.

    THE QUESTION #12
    Plotter: CaptCleghorn
    Writer MARK RUSSELL
    Artist BILL SIENKIEWICZ
“How Can I Hear Anyone if Everybody’s Yelling?”
As you saw last issue, the Siren’s concert led to rioting in the streets of Hub City. Vic’s had enough of Sportsmaster and Siren using Hub City as their plaything. To break the real story, Vic’s been trying to get GOAT Laurence “Crusher” Crock on his show to discuss Crock’s business activities in Hub City. The plan is to mention evidence and crooked dealing while calling him “Laurence” which Crock hates. The hope is to upset Crock enough to get him to admit to something.
Part A of the plan worked as Crock became very angry, called Vic a “second rate Jim Rome (google him, kids)” and slugged him. Now fight scenes, even ones between non-powered individuals are common in comics, but when the hero is in his secret identity and is forced to show his talent and the film is rolling causing copies to pop up all over the internet, Vic may soon get another claim to fame.

Even the leaders of Meridian, who had aimed to control this new form of humanity, have been assimilated.
The infantile consciousness of the Starheart itself controls all of humankind — except for one.
Dick Grayson, the first assimilated, finds himself uniquely independent within the psychic plane of the Starheart.
At the end of the world, Dick is the only one who can save humanity.
Fists and weapons won’t help him here. To save the world, Dick must accomplish one of the most difficult tasks of the modern age: he must convince somebody to change their ways.
If Dick can teach the Starheart the error of its ways, can he save not only the world, but himself?

I’ve got a starfish on my face and am being compelled to spend a ton of virtual money on this month’s awesome books. But I’d have done it anyway! My pulls:

    STARRO WARS #1
    BAT-WING #11
    BAT-WING #12
    DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE #11
DEADLY HANDS OF CONNOR HAWKE #11
DEADLY HANDS OF CONNOR HAWKE #12 (Really dig this “Those who hunt heroes” arc)
THE FLASH #12 *Starro Wars Tie-In*
GREEN LANTERN #12 *Starro Wars Tie-In*
LEGENDS OF THE MULTIVERSE #11 (Does sunlight help or hurt Vampire Superman??? I must know!)
OUTSIDERS #9 (love this continuation and respect for the canon! Kudos RIG!)
THE QUESTION #12 (never disrespect the GOAT!)
RED X #12 (meta! Love it)
    SENSATION COMICS #12
SONS OF DITKO #3 (darker than I expected but very interesting!)
STARRO WARS: CLAW THE UNCONQUERED (Possible Minotaur Starro… Minostarro???)
STARRO WARS: ETTA AND FERDINAND #1
    STARRO WARS: RED LANTERN
STARRO WARS: THE GREAT TEN(epic tie-in!)
STARRO WARS: WONDER GIRLS #1 (parents really need to just have that uncomfortable space starfish allegiance talk with their teens. And hell yeah Psycho-Parrot!)
    TEEN TITANS #2

Gotta add these to my pull list! I always thought canon Batwing was a huge missed opportunity - an opportunity that is not missed within the Next Dawn Universe. Very cool to see this character play out in such a unique setting. And (IMHO) his past a forced killer when being a child soldier makes his interaction with Batman's "No Kill" code super interesting.

Ah, we find out the answer in the very next issue actually!

And, for my picks: 1 of everything please! Spreading love in the time of Covid

Every post I make, it should be assumed by the reader that the following statement is attached: "It's all subjective. What works for me doesn't necessarily work for you, and vice versa, and that's ok. You may have a different opinion on it, but this is mine. That's the wonderful thing about being a comics fan, it's all subjective."

If my mortgage doesn't get paid this month, it's all of your faults!!

STARRO WARS #1 (Giant starfish that reproduces asexually? It's got problems and needs our help.)
BAT-WING #11 (Family issues again. Perhaps a series about a superhero family therapist?)
BAT-WING #12 (A powerful emotional conclusion like this deserves no dumb jokes. Well done!)
DC EXTENDED UNIVERSE #11 (Now Faora is bad-@$$ and I kinda think she's sexy. Can we hook her and Starro up?)
DEADLY HANDS OF CONNOR HAWKE #11 (Family therapy is desperately needed. OMG, could I actually come up with an original idea?)
DEADLY HANDS OF CONNOR HAWKE #12 (The setting and imagery fits the type of tale. Before one can fix a relationship, one must fix the parts.)
THE FLASH #12 *Starro Wars Tie-In* (I suspect the "Fastest Man Alive" may not be the partner Starro needs to relieve its tensions.)
GREEN LANTERN #12 *Starro Wars Tie-In* (Hmmm, Green Lantern and Starro? At least there will be no arguments about the color the bedroom will be done up in.)
LEGENDS OF THE MULTIVERSE #11 (If I was a vampire Captain Cleghorn, I could stay up all night and sleep until dusk. Plus, I'd have an additional action figure to sell.)
OUTSIDERS #9 (I now am positive HGTV is running these comics. When do we get the search for reveal of the new HQ?)
THE QUESTION #12 (Doesn't Vic care about Starro finally finding a partner?)
RED X #12 (Hats are off in respect to this amazing book.)
SENSATION COMICS #12 (Another Civil War tie-in? It seems like... excuse me, I misread, so embarrassing.)
SONS OF DITKO #3 (So it's a four part story and yet, the main plots all tie up here?)
STARRO WARS: CLAW THE UNCONQUERED (Vandal Savage could be Starro's wingman and finally fix that starfish up and fix the problem.)
STARRO WARS: ETTA AND FERDINAND #1 (Etta and Ferdinand? I guess, although a threesome is kind of kinky.)
STARRO WARS: RED LANTERN (Guy should set up his own bar to initiate one-night stands so Starro can be fixed up.)
STARRO WARS: THE GREAT TEN (The group is the Great Ten, but sa member named August makes it sound like there should be twelve. I confuse easily.)
STARRO WARS: WONDER GIRLS #1 (Wonder Girls? That's pretty much all it took to sell me the book. Yes, I am a pig.)
TEEN TITANS #2 (Oooooo, new setup and origin for Wallace. This is what impresses me!)
