from what I remember of this story, I really did not like it by the end. it felt, at it's best parts, like a lesser imitation of Watchmen with some potentially intriguing ideas in the mix. at it's worst parts, it felt like a shallow masturbatory nostalgiapiece for DC, by way of Superman, with the money shot all over the face of Watchmen and nuanced storytelling in general. It had some absolute baller art by Gary THE GOD Frank tho; **** was clean. obviously it's a harsh take that was probably exasperated by the enormous (and ultimately unwarranted) hype built around this title coupled with it's heavy delays. In truth, it's probably just a mediocre to ok story where DC and Johns simply bought into his and the stories' hype and "importance", and simply couldn't live up to that hype. I'm gonna revisit it just now, maybe i'll end up taking a less harsh stance with some distance, but I wanted to put my initial take down before I do.

THE SIGNAL (Duke Thomas) is DC's secret shonen protagonist so I made him a fandom wiki

also, check out "The Signal Tape" a Duke Thomas fan project.

    currently following:
    • DC: Red Hood: The Hill
    • Marvel: TBD
    • Manga (Shonen/Seinen): One Piece, My Hero, Dandadan, Jujutsu Kaisen, Kaiju No. 8, Reincarnation of The Veteran Soldier, Oblivion Rouge, ORDEAL, The Breaker: Eternal Force

The story itself was ok but I actually felt a bit let down. Obviously Watchmen is one of the most important stories in comics history so having those characters meet the DC icons should have been pretty significant. It wasn’t just the characters involved. This story was supposed to answer all the Rebirth questions, so there was quite a bit of buildup. The JSA and LoS returning was something we could see happening and the big reveal should have been huge. Sadly, the delays kinda ruined the huge payoff. By the time the final issue hit the stands the JSA had already returned in Snyder’s Justice League (in a forgettable fashion) and Bendis’ Legion of Superheroes was already announced. So the only real surprise was the Kents returning. I’m glad the Kents are back but it was anticlimactic.
