Issue #4......Now THAT was GOOOOOD! 9.5/10 maybe 10/10

King in Black is exactly what an Event Series should be. It is all about the Main Battle. It doesn't go out of it's way to explore where the Surfer is coming from or where the newly possessed was prior to the end of the issue (that is being discussed elsewhere).

This Event Comic understands what it is more than any I have read for quite awhile and Donny Cates deserves a lot of credit for keeping such a massive World Eating Event contained to just 5 Issues. That expedited pacing works perfectly for a War that is taking place in a matter of hours while we wait months.

Donny Cates was already a name to remember, but King in Black makes him a name you need to know going forward.

I can not wait until Issue #5.

It is something that makes so much sense and yet it is for a character whose origins have never really been explored. The fact that Silver Surfer is used like a Herald in this issue also made me smile. The fact he is now one of the Oldest Beings in the Marvel Universe makes it funnier for some reason lol.

I have to say, between King in Black and Absolute Carnage,
Cates is definitely one of the best writers at Events series,
like the main Event book is full of high light moments for a lot of characters,
it's exciting, don't know if he will try a Thor event later.

I don't read Dr Strange that much. Did he turn into Jesus? Also, why are he and of all people Black Cat close?

Black Cat has been stealing from him lately. Her series before King in Black had her steal from him, and Nick Spencer had her steal something from Strange for Spidey over in his own book at pretty much the same time lol.

Knull is the God of Darkness. He is just not the origin of darkness itself.

Also, Strange used his staff to turn himself into an Asgardian god. It's explained a bit more in depth in Black Cat's own series.
