    Really???

Cass is a lot of things. But a master detective ain’t one of them.

She definitely is better than Bruce and the others at a lot of things, but I consider detective skills a must for being the head Bat.

That didn't stop him picking Jean-Paul over Dick Grayson.

Bruce picked Jean over Dick because at that time he feels he didn't have the right to ask/order Dick, it's not about skill.

This is so true. I feel like he wouldn't want to burden anyone from the bat family and will instead either continue till he dies or build his own replacement.

I don't think at any point Bruce ever really considered Dick his successor in Knightfall, and I've ben rereading it. Dick raised his objections to Jean-Paul and that he wanted to be the next Batman but that didn't come to anything. The choice was only between Bruce himself and Jean-Paul. He also gave the responsibility of reigning in Jean-Paul to a very young Tim Drake.

    ^^^Exactly!
It’s not about skill in Cassandra’s case either. Her lack of detective skills isn’t insurmountable.

    Besides, it’s Gotham;
just figure out who’s supposed to be in Arkham, and check for an empty cell.

Lack of dective skills? Cass lacks even a kindergarten education. Which is kind of the point with Cass. Her abilities come at the cost of basic knowledge that is taken for granted.

Cass's not helpless. She's been running solo missions for herself since her first series and unlike Jean-Paul asks for help when she needs it. The bat family were there for her, but they didn't hold her hand on investigating crimes. She needs the Bat Family to help he read things, house/HQ, costume - the rest she does on her own. She may be quiet but she's not stupid, she's very street smart. She's more capable than Jean-Paul ever was as Batman.

Edit: Years later in Batman and the Outsiders there's an issue where Cass is putting together her own new Outsiders team after the previous one disbanded after Batman "died" in RIP. She created the team as a concept to fill in all the sell slots Batman had, like Riddler for mystery solving, and she did this from the Batcomputer/Kray and was going around Gotham recruiting people and just showing up when two recruits (Spoiler/Vigilante) had spontaneously found each other and got into a fight as heroes do. She's very much a mini-Batman.

Not to mention her crazy body reading skills also were a decent substitute for deductive skills as she was able to crack the most guarded secret in DCU when she recognized Bruce Wayne was Batman just by looking at the photos of a young Bruce and subsequently at the photos of his arrest. That's all the signs of a master detective in making.

I think people are underestimating Cassandra..

Cassandra has shown that she is able to have crazy detective skills by recognizing people only based on their movements.

I dont remember in whose series it was, but Cassandra and Barbara were on a ship together with Conner Kent (in his secret identity)
Cassandra looked at him and recognized that Conner is Superboy based on his movements.

She was also able to find him in Smallville!!!!!

I dont know how this is connected to reality, BUT in one RED ROBIN a kind of possible future Titans Team were shown.

    With Conner as Superman
    Cassie as Wonder Woman
    Miss Martian
    Beast Boy
Cassandra Cain as BATMAN (she was wearing a BATMAN Costume)

Thanks to ScottSnyder Bruce now has a machine to clone himself a young body then imprint it with his memories. He will always be Batman. If the machine malfunctions Cass will become Batman because she is the next Batgod in training

Cass isn’t a blithering idiot or attack dog, agreed.

If the point being made is she’s not as good a detective as Batman that’s fine.
No one's as good as Batman in every area they’d have to be!

Cass is protected, in that way, and rarely does she face a problem she can’t karate chop or body read away, and when her situation got too inconvenient for her as Batgirl they hand waved it. She has these more or less superpowers but she is suppose to have them at the cost of normal everyday things people use to function. She couldn’t talk, or read, had no education, etc. As Batman, with out even more handwaving, it’d be harder to dance around from confronting that.
