Perez kind of failed to stick the landing at the end with Hippolyta hooking up with Heracles briefly but for the most part, I think it was one of the better DC stories about rape.

Why would you want to see more rape in comics?
It's not like rape is a subject that comics writers need to "alert" people about, that's not what comics are for. Everytime comics are used in that way it feels forced and silly imo. Comics are supposed to be fun.

I don't think that's what the OP is asking for.

I'm not saying it was used well, but Stealth raping Dox in L.E.G.I.O.N. '89 definitely led to some interesting storylines. She got pregnant and had his son. She also hid him from Dox for a long time. Then later, the son defeated his father and took over the team.

I always assumed she had been raped when I read it.

Did you read what I actually wrote? If so, I am not quite sure how you are getting this idea from it.

Agreed. I probably should have assumed that some posters wouldn't actually read my first post to understand what kind of this discussion we're trying to have here.

Mods, could you please change the thread title to "What role, if any, should sexual assault have within the DCU?"

    Thanks

Same here. She lost the canary cry and the ability to have children. That told me enough.

I see no ones mentioned Sue Dibny and Identity Crisis yet.........what a shocker.

I don't think any comic has handled that sort of thing well.

Mikaal from Starman was also raped by the woman who captured him.

It's not about not reading your post, it's just that the title of the thread is...a lot to just stomach while browsing a comic book fourm on a Wednesday morning.

Just a simple rephrasing would give people the opportunity to decide whether or not they even want to participate in a conversation about the roles of heinous assault on fictional characters.

It has been used as a tool for meaningful development but that’s rare. More often it’s been used as a cheap way to up the states, or even worse, to titillate. Male writers especially have to be mindful of how they use rape given how often it’s used against female characters.

Not true. Not all comics are meant to be feel good reads that only exist to entertain you. Some comics are quite depressing or touch on serious matter where “fun” plays little to no role.

Yeah a lot of people made that assumption and the writer had to clarify it wasn't a rape.
