When looking for Byrne's Wonder Woman covers, I was struck with how often she was placed into personal peril. But this one I liked.

«Speaking generally, it is because of the desire of the tragic poets for the marvellous that so varied and inconsistent an account of Medea has been given out» (Diodorus Siculus, The Library of History [4.56.1])

There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

Not only is this my favorite Byrne cover, but it's one of my top 5 covers of all time:

“Now faith, hope, and love remain, and the greatest of these is love.”--1 Corinthians 13:13
“You had a dream; I have a plan”--Cyclops
“There's no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes.”--The Doctor
Tigra, laying on your side
Stripes across your eyes
And you look me up and down
Angel, what you smoking?
It's a fire that you keep
It's a fire at your feet
Like a cross around your neck
Tonight, you are a blessing
Will re-use for a future contest

I'm not that familiar with much of Byrne's work; other than his creator-owned stuff.

While Byrne is not my favorite, he did write this Batman story, which is a great story. Only two words in this entire issue.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:
Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.
While the Dark Phoenix saga delivered some of the most epic covers of the decade.
Jean Gray channeling cosmic powered Emma Peel was almost to much for my young mind to handle

I appreciated that, even with her main power being telepathic, Jean still took time to use her Thighmaster.
Every day is a gift, not a given right.
