So Bugs is especially vulnerable to covid-19? Everyone wear a mask!
This coming Monday, July 27, 2020 is the 80th anniversary of the release of the first official Bugs Bunny cartoon, "A Wild Hare."
It was released theatrically with the B-movie, "Ladies Must Live," which had George "Superman" Reeves in a supporting role.
"A Wild Hare" was nominated for the Best Animated Short Oscar of 1940 along with MGM's first Tom and Jerry cartoon, "Puss Gets the Boot." However, both lost to the other nominee, MGM's "The Milky Way" by the Harman-Ising team who moved to MGM after creating the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies series for producer Leon Schlesinger and Warner Bros.
Elmer Fudd had previously made his first official appearance in "Elmer's Candid Camera" (Mar 2). This was directed by Chuck Jones and is the 4th appearance of the prototype Bugs Bunny character (after "Porky's Hare Hunt" (1938), "Prest-O, Change-O" (1939), and "Hare-um Scare-um" (1939))
Besides Bugs Bunny (July 27) and Tom & Jerry (Feb 10), 1940 was also notable in animation for the introduction of another star, Woody Woodpecker (Nov 25).

OMG! My Absolute Fave Toon Character Ever!
HBD!
Well we are all happy they didn't kill the wabbit.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!
Bugs was so big back then he showed in two live action films. There is a old photo of a movie theatre showing a clark gable film. A bugs bunny cartoon was in front of it. Clark gable was the rock of his time. A huge star. Bugs got top billing with bugs name really big and clarks under him in smaller letters! Bugs was the bigger draw! That's how big bugs was then!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Bugs!
