Santiago's Skiff (Old Man and the Sea), the image of it's profile completley overshadowed by the giant marlin he desperately straps to it side, always stuck with me, don't know that the little boat ever had a name. Lots of parallels to Melville's and to Moore's story above.

As they continually traveled west around the globe, in the same direction as the sun, while the rest of the world had moved ahead a day, becoming the first humans to have lost one.
