After Kitty’s death, let’s say each remaining member had to choose someone to replace them in the event of their death (where resurrection is not an option)?
Can’t choose someone who’s already on the council. So Xavier can’t choose Jean as his replacement for example.

Emma - the Cuckoos (all of them! Gonna need a bigger chair...) or Hellion (representing the new generations)
Kitty - Illyana or Rachel or Kurt (her buds)
Shaw - a resurrected Leland McCauley or Lourdes Chantal (whom he'll try to control from behind the throne)
Storm - Callisto (or maybe Gentle, if Callisto refuses, for their ties to the Morlocks, or Wakanda)
Jean - Cyclops or Wolverine
Nightcrawler - Wolverine (anybody overtly religious?, if there were any religious mutants, other Kurt, and, maybe Dust, whom I don't know if he's even met, or Rahne...)
Magneto - Rogue or Namor!
Xavier - Moira, if she's outed as still alive and a mutant (maybe Amelia Voight, if not?, or Beast or Sage)
Apocalypse - Angel (confusing the hell out of Angel!)
Sinister - whoever he finds to be most hilariously inappropriate, probably Beast (because he wants Hank to know that he thinks he's totally on the right 'mad scientist' path and feel bad about it), maybe Gambit (because he wants Gambit to feel bad about that Morlock Massacre thing, still, and rub a little salt in), maybe Quentin Quire or Glob Herman (as a giant eff-you to everyone else)
Mystique - Destiny (just to make it terribly obvious to *everyone* that she's not being resurrected for a reason...)
