Default Would a Return to the Satellite-Era Lineup For Justice League Be a Hit?

The Satellite Era is one of, if not the most fondly remembered periods in the history of the Justice League. In spite of this, we have never gotten a reunion of that lineup:

    Superman
    Batman
    Wonder Woman
    The Flash
    Green Lantern
    Martian Manhunter
    Zatanna
    Red Tornado
    Elongated Man
    Firestorm

Could be, with the right writer.

Trying to go with nostalgia and repeat old formulas that succeed in their moment have proved to be a failure. X-men Gold being the biggest example as it tried to imititate Claremont's stories.

Although the Satellite Era is the hallmark for the JLA that everyone either born before, during, or after is familiar with....ultimately it has one big problem.

Racial demographics in the United States has significantly changed since the 1970's/80's, so an all white JLA for me would not be suitable.

Oh trust me, if I could permanently cement Hal Jordan's feet in the JLA for every run I would (my favourite member)...but there needs to more diversity in the league, not less, so the question is who do you start to bring in.

Black Lightning, Vixen and Cyborg are good starts, but that is just one demographic so to speak, there needs to be more...Kyle?

I found the image below I’m assuming it’s from the “Satellite era” because I see this image a lot.

Yeah that’s pretty white. I can’t even imagine the appeal. Couldn’t they just recreate the satellite and make a diverse lineup? The idea of a satellite headquarters is pretty cool. I’m not crazy about a team with Batman, Superman, & Wonder Woman though unless they’re new, more diverse versions.

I’ve never enjoyed or not enjoyed a comic because of the character’s the characters’ race.

Anyway, on topic, you have The Trinity/six out of The Big Seven, and four old members that are criminally underused. I’d like to see what’d come of it.

I'm kinda of surprised DC hasn't done anything interesting with red tornado for a while, that said, I don't have any nostalgia for that lineup so I'm indifferent.

We kind of did when Dwayne McDuffie was writing Justice League of America. The team consisted of mostly satellite-era members with a few additions:

    Superman
    Batman
    Wonder Woman
    Green Lantern(Hal & John)
    Flash
    Black Canary
    Hawkgirl
    Red Tornado
    Zatanna
    Firestorm
    Red Arrow
    Vixen
    Black Lightning
    Dr. Light
Currently(or soon to be) Reading: Alan Scott: Green Lantern, Batman/Superman: World's Finest, Fire & Ice: Welcome to Smallville, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Jay Garrick: The Flash, Justice Society of America, Power Girl, Superman, Shazam, Titans, Wesley Dodds: Sandman, Wonder Woman, & World's Finest: Teen Titans.

If that line up would have lasted and had a chance to get multiple adventures under it’s belt I think it’d have a spot in the top 5 best JLA teams.

I don't know if it was the racial demographics that have changed so radically, just that TPTB at the time had no interest in appealing to anyone other than the straight white majority.

For all the talk of wanting diversity, why doesn't DC just give the Global Guardians a reboot and a real push? Representation (at least in terms of countries) is literally the point of that team.

I doubt it, I don't think that line up is interesting enough to drive up the sales.
Reading List (Super behind but reading them nonetheless):
    DC: Currently figuring that out
    Marvel: Read above
    Image: Killadelphia, Nightmare Blog
Other: The Antagonist, Something is Killing the Children, Avatar: TLAB
Manga: My Hero Academia, MHA: Vigilanties, Soul Eater: the Perfect Edition, Berserk, Hunter X Hunter, Witch Hat Atelier, Kaiju No. 8

Definitely not, at least not as the only option available. The lack of diversity means it will be out of place in the modern world.

It's my favorite incarnation, but we also need to accept it's in the past and we shouldn't chase it too much at the expense of more modern, diverse options. We could use it as a basis and do what it did back then: expand the membership to include more diverse characters and rotate out the characters depending on the arc. That way we get the original Satellite line up but be additive, not subtractive.

a self contained limited series set in that era with only that lineup could work, just as long as we have other modern versions at the same time.

I would love to return to the Satellite League as long as they don't try to ruin it (Identity Crisis).

Martian Manhunter wasn’t a part of that team.

I would like to see that team minus the big 7 and add a few other
    Members.

So Green Arrow, Black Canary,Hawkman, Hawkwoman, Atom, Zatanna, Red Tornado, Firestorm, plus a few others like Vixen, Dr Light and Shazam and a younger character like Element Woman.

It would be interesting to see the dynamics without a trinity driving the leadership. Or without GL and Flash stalwarts.

I totally agree. It's my favorite JLA line-up of all time. My favorite used to be the satellite-era team but this eclipsed it with the inclusion of Vixen, Dr. Light, and Black Lightning.
