Default Native Americans/Mestizos/Métis of the DCU!!

Here is a thread dedicated to discussing the characters in the DCU belonging to the Native American race (counting Mestizos and Métis as well since they are also visibly Native). This is a complimentary thread to the awesome Africana and Asian threads celebrating characters belonging to those races and the Latinos thread celebrating characters of that ethnicity. Some of the characters might be up for debate but I’m more than willing to explain why they were included

NATIVE AMERICAN: A member of any of the indigenous peoples of North, Central, and South America (ie Cree, Navajo, Aztec, Mayan, Inca, Quechua...etc)

MESTIZO: (In Latin America) A person of mixed race, especially one having Spanish and indigenous descent.

MÉTIS: (Especially in western Canada) a person of mixed indigenous and Euro-American ancestry

I will need some time to think of who to pick! I love Jaime, Jessica, Dawnstar John and Sarah so it’s a tough choice!

The OP was banned there and this thread has way more characters and is more researched.

I voted for Dawnstar, but I am a huge fan of the John Trujillo Black Condor:

He never really got a chance, but he was awesome!

Is Nayeli of Indigenous Mexican origin? I know her name is of Zapotec origin but I don't recall it being stated she herself was.

Anyway I voted for Tye Longshadow.

Dawnstar by far...but has Apache Chief ever been featured in an actual DC comic, or is he strictly a Hannah Barbara cartoon hero?

I don’t think she has been but with her name and how she appears, it’s safe to assume that she is. I mean it’s not like DC will reveal her ancestry since most Americans (comic artists and writers too) see Latino as a race. I’ll just say she’s Zapotec. I do wonder what part of Mexico Jaime and Jessica are from though, could give insight into their Native origins.

I don’t think he has shown up beyond wordless cameos. Though I think Manitou Raven was supposed to be a new take on him. I’d like to see the Young Justice version appear in the comics. He was the best!

Sadly missing one of DC's first with their own book, just shows how far off the radar they've let him fall.

Rafa Sandoval incarnation of El Diablo

You know their ancestors can just as easily be from North America. And never have moved or crossed a border.
There is like this anglo-whitewashing american history that defaults all north american "mestizos" (in this context anyone mixed of Hispanic/Latino/Indigenous like Jaime, or Jessica or many of the above) ancestors must have crossed the border.
Yet many (on both sides Indigenous and Hispanic) have been here before anglos, and they never moved or crossed any border. Just the "new" borders came across where they and their families and ancestors already lived.

Oh El Diablo! Hmm I wasn’t sure if he counted or not. From how artist would draw him, he just seemed Spanish and his mythology was more European inspired than Native, if memory serves me correctly. Though that could be down to artist interpretation and my memory may be failing me lol He’s Puerto Rican so he most likely has some Taino ancestry.

I went with Dawnstar. As much as I loved the Green Lanterns series by Sam Humphries the follow up writer left me cold. Is Gen 13 really DC now? I thought that was just new 52 copyright keeping.

I enjoyed that title, but that incarnation of el Diablo was created by Gerard Jones, so....

Well considering Jim Lee is now in charge I expect to see far more Wildstorm character pop up in the DCU. Grifter already has. Sarah Rainmaker would be an awesome addition to the Titans! She’s got a cool visual and awesome powers!
