Lightbulb If Marvel was a manga company, how would things change?

90% of the problems that I have with Marvel Comics come from its (lack of) structure, I was wondering what would happen if Marvel Comics were more like a Manga magazine. The best part is, since this is just a fan discussion, we don't have to worry about the bureaucracy that comes with a real company.

How would you organize the stories? Would it be one whole universe or an anthology?

Most importantly, how long would each series go on for?

Personally I think the books would be more consistent and better written. Manga usually gets a bit of time to catch on. But the biggest plus is the same creative team. If marvel hired and artist and writer for one book for at least a guaranteed 3 year 36 issue run with no behind the scenes interference with rotating artists/writersI think the books would end up selling much better and have a more loyal fanbase. It could also still be a shared universe but imagine things would be much easier to maintain. Character books once a week or twice a week so each avenger has a story with the same team and then the monthly team book. So in a 4 week period if there are seven avengers we have 2 books a week with one week having three and forth week being the team book.

    That's a given lol.

And likely more complex and arguably better plots.

Interesting enough Hulk probably lends itself to a manga style pretty well.

We wouldn't get a shared universe. The titles would end but i wouldn't see them ending that fast- most of the big 3 lasted a decade or more.

    Legacy characters would actually progress
We’d probably get spinoffs and not decades of the same manga
Characters that don’t work would probably be scrapped and never seen again unless they pop up somewhere else
Big team books would be probably handled very interesting I’d imagine they’d be those event universe coming together titles like a Jump Force of sorts

Actually, no we would not, since better animated is not a part of the "manga style" as defined.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

That's true. All we would get would be more faithful adaptations.

    Touché

Oh, but most major villains would only last one arc or season (two or one and one half, if the villain is very lucky), so that is a downside.

It would depend on the studio, the staff, and the production schedule.

You are very right, but there is also other factor that is popularity.

Shonen Jump series or series from the Fate universe are safe bets for any studio, they have a very popular status so any studio can focus their effort in that single show at time. Ufotable is a single proyect at time studio, so they animate very well, but you can focus in a single proyect if that proyect is going to be profitable.

All this threath is a what if, but in reality Marvel shows just doesn't have that status yet in Japan. So the solution is bypass their own market and produce straight for America, or increase the popularity of Marvel in Japan and to do that you need a very strong and profitable gimmyick.

That is the diference form Disk Wars and Future Avengers, Toei beign way more suited to long running child shows than madhouse which is way more suited for adult DTVs. Disk wars had a very good and profitable gimmick, the Disk themselves are wonderfull thing from a marketing stand point. I think that Disk Wars even had a 3ds videogame. In other hand Future Avengers feels like it had a very weak hook for the japanese market because without the new kids it's barely any diferent from any avengers american cartoon it had some anime details here and there but not nearly enought.

It's weird that Marvel tries to make the trio kids as a manga like team equivalent to the original japanesse native Big Hero 6, only Makoto fits that idea, they felt way more like kids self insert for a market like Disney or America than for main land japan. Is closer to the San Francisco new Big hero 6 version of the movie than the original ones so in the end it doesn't really feels like belongs in Japanesse TV .

If it was a manga company, it DEFINITELY wouldn't be one big universe. Nothing like that exists in Japan.

Also, EVERY book would be creator-owned. So, basically, not Marvel.
