    Default Empyre: X-Men #2 spoilers

What the f-word is going on here on this day?

Apparently the quiet council didn't do a very good job of warning their war generals that a group of dangerous old ladies who want to murder the entire planet could have access to the Krakoan gates, because Magik & co spend most of the time having no idea what to do with them. That leads to Angel and Madrox being mindcontrolled to help Hordeculture by some sort of special pheromones.

Magik wants to end the grannies for once and for all, but it all gets interrupted by another round of plants vs. zombies. In the fight, 'Yana calls for help from her demon friends, but that isn't enough to face the Cotati's "seedpod" from their warship, which turns the soil of Genosha itself as a weapon. The seedpod traps Monet, Madrox and two members of Hordeculture inside of it. From Krakoa, Black Tom senses that something is wrong and uses the dirt and pollen (!) that Warren carried with him to communicate with the team.

Black Tom, Magik and the remaining Hordeculture members come up with a plan using Krakoa's defensive mechanisms against the Cotati's invasive plants, but while it works to free Monet and Madrox from being trapped, it also leads to another problem as Krakoa feeds on psychic energy and knocks out Monet (serving Storm on X-Men: Gold realness). Due to that, Magik nicely convinces (sic) the Hordeculture ladies to fix the Krakoan gates and, as a war captain, calls for help from all the psychics on Krakoa - which means Kid Omega, the Cuckoos, Exodus, Lady Mastermind, Selene, Sinister, Mastermind... and the Shadow King??!!

    tl;dr it's a huge f-wordČ mess.

Magik's characterization was off in the first two sections. The plot was a little too much for me, the writers were pretty clearly trying to keep getting bigger and more chaotic and it's not as entertaining as they think it is. Werneck's art was the highlight, everyone looked gorgeous.

I have a feeling they're just there to juice Krakoa.

I do hope they follow up on the Scarlet Witch and don't drop it.

Shadow King on Krakoa raises questions.

Yes, I think it is obviously for that. For Krakoa to beat the other plants needs all the psionic energy possible and telepaths have much more psionic energy than any other mutant.

Of course, some like Exodus or Sinister don't need telepathy to kick ass.

I can't speak for others, but Jean, Rachel and Cable are on vacation with their family during the event at Shi'ar space.

Perhaps the others are in Krakoa with the tie in of the attack on the main island with Magneto.

But it seems above all that they wanted to make the page "Look, bad guys!".

As usual, everybody seems to forget that Karma is a psychic as well. She was trained by Emma many decades ago.

Martha / No Girl is not there either.

I think it's as simple as "We want there to be supervillains." I honestly don't understand what the Cuckoos are doing there.

I hate to sound this negative, but I thought that this was one of the worst Dawn of X comics. Maybe I'm just disappointed because I liked the first so much?

Like a lot of people have said, I thought that Magik was of character.

I really enjoyed the Magik/Monet interactions in the first issue, and those were mostly absent here in my opinion.

I thought that Horduculture received a little to much panel time. But, that may be because I'm not very fond of them to begin with.

Why does Black Tom call Warren Little Tom? If it is a refarence to the Ferlun Husky song I dont see how it works other than Warren not turning out to be something great. Warren doesnt come from a disadvantaged background the way that Little Tom does in the song. And, I dont believe that Angel's father was ever portrayed as being a bad husband or father.
Am I just missing something with these lyrics, or is the Little Tom comment not really a referance to the song?

It has been very chaotic. I understand that for writers it can be fun to go from one to the other but the first number was definitely much more cohesive than this one.

I want to know if it's really Shadow King or just Amahl Farouk with body modification like Monet/Penance or Angel/Archangel.

Magik is bad ass no matter what. She has a more calmed internal chaos. So her cussing every 5 min seemed so high school.

And I agree the writers jammed a lot into this miniseries. But I guess Hickman isnt going to delve more into Hordeculture in X-Men. Don't know why else he would stick them in this other than the plant stuff? Just seems over bloated.

    Wasnt bad but wasnt great.

The use of Magik here really annoys me.

If you wanted to use Jubilee, use freaking Jubilee. Or Boom Boom! or Shark Girl or any other spunky X-Woman.

It was Tini who added Hordeculture, from hearing how this thing was written it sounds like a writer did whatever they wanted in their pages and then handed it off to the next guy to deal with. I'm sure Hickman has his own plans for the murder grandmas.
