Default DC Next Dawn - August Solicits!

We present to you DC Next Dawn, a collection of all new fan-made issues on “sale” this month, AUGUST 2020!

What is “DC Next Dawn” and how does it work?

Next Dawn, previously known as “New Dawn,” is a fan fiction universe and solicitation game that has been in existence on the CBR boards for approximately ten years! It has gone through several iterations and has survived forum reboots! The way it works is that “plotters” write short solicitations for monthly comic books! Then participants “buy” the books they want to read! The books with the most buys get rewards. Sounds fun, right? So let’s do this! Which of this month's solicits interest and excite you? Let us know by posting which books you'd pick up in the virtual Next Dawn Store (this solicitation thread). You can pull as many as you'd like, but also consider your "virtual budget" when making your selections, as sales are used to reward our titles and plotters. Registers are open all month and sales are tallied at the end of the month.

Absolutely anyone can make purchases right here in this thread - so please do!. It’s free and is basically just saying “I’d read this” or “I like this!” So let us know!

If you want more information on Next Dawn or are interested in plotting yourself, please visit us at the Next Dawn Bullpen Thread.

    Behold! Our monthly archive!
This is the repository of our prior work; a compilation of all the monthly solicitation posts since the forum was reset in 2014.

    “FATHER KNOWS BEST”
My name is Henry Allen, and my son is the fastest man alive. I couldn’t be there for him growing up because I was falsely imprisoned, framed for his mother’s murder. Without me... he became the Flash. But now he’s got a gross alien starfish on his face, controlling his mind and making him do evil. Iris West already tried to save him and got a face starfish of her own for her troubles. But don’t worry, slugger. Daddy’s home now, and he’s going to take care of everything... by putting Starro on the Wall!
Flash Fact: In American prison slang, the Wall is a place where peer justice is dispensed through violence.
After learning his secret, Henry suspected Barry might eventually need more help than a humble doctor could offer. So he used his connections from inside to link up with the most powerful crew in town: the Rogues! They provided him a piece of meta-tech, a dark matter-infused sonography machine that allows him to look inside biological organisms... and rewire them! Now he’s got one mission: lure his son into Captain Cold’s Absolute Zero trap to slow him down, scan the Starro spore, and rewire it to kill the swarm. This looks like a job for... how about... “Dr. Ultrasound”?!
Meanwhile, the Martian Manhunter discovered that telepaths can detect minds dominated by Starro. One telepath in particular plans to use that ability to go on the offensive. Grodd save us all! But in gorilla warfare, collateral damage is acceptable... and Grodd isn’t worried about preserving innocent hosts!

    * Oliver Queen, Benjamin Turner, and Jefferson Pierce have a simple task - find a bus for the team to use on their road trip. A bus is cheap, but that doesn't mean it works. An old student of Jefferson's is a mechanic and offers to fix it up for free; if they help get the local gang off his back. THE QUESTION #13
    Plotter: CaptCleghorn
    Writer MARK RUSSELL
    Artist BILL SIENKIEWICZ
    “Quo Vadis 1: Who?”
Vic’s fight with Sportsmaster has gone viral and for the most part, no one believes it was real. Sure, there was a “fight” but could a TV newsguy actually beat the Sportsmaster? So Vic doesn’t have to worry about his identity to the general public. Instead he’s seen to be more and more of a shill pushing fake news.
But Vic did use some moves which were pretty advanced outside of expert fighters. One such person is the media mogul Lee Travis, noticing Vic’s deceptive skill and is just as curious as Vic can be. So Travis calls an associate of his: Merry Pemburton, the Girl of a Googleplex of Gimmicks. Merry is recently back from Santa Prisca as is Vicki Vale who is doing a major series on the effects of Hurricane Chris on the depressed tropical island.
If you’re been reading thjis series, you already know Merry knows who Vic is. If you haven’t been reading, then the Quo Vadis arc is a great place to start as we discover where Vic is going.

    Art by JAE LEE
    “KINGDOM OF STARRO”
Long ago, in the Pytharian Age...
The great Castle Illumines has fallen, but the immortal King Vandar Adg (Vandal Savage), along with a handful of his elite royal guardsmen, retain their mental freedom... thanks entirely to a barbarian with a demon hand known to them only as Claw! This mysterious swordsman has proven immune to and “unconquered” by the demonic starfish spores plaguing the land - yet he now finds himself surrounded and hopelessly outnumbered, protecting a ruler for whom he has no love.
Their only hope, so says the King, lies in their ability to fight their way to the royal dungeons. Therein, Vandar has been detaining a prisoner who may possess the requisite power needed to aid the unlikely fellowship in defeating Starro. Once a humble migrant shepherd, this prisoner became a powerful and headstrong wizard... and thus a threat to Vandar’s reign. His name is Mamaragan, though you might know him better by the magic word he uses to empower himself. Against all odds, Claw must find and liberate this captive wizard while also convincing him, in the name of the greater good, to speak the word that may be humanity’s salvation: SHAZAM!

    STARRO WARS: CYBERNARY #1
    Written by Kieron Gillen
    Plot by H-E-D
    Art by James Stokoe
Life on Gamorra has never been idyllic before. In fact, it’s rather dystopian. So when some of the citizens start talking about their loyalty to a tentacle creature from outer space called Starro, most of their neighbors just chalk it up to nervous breakdowns.
But the leader of Gamorra takes disloyalty very seriously. And so he asks his daughter Yumiko – AKA Cybernary – to root out this epidemic of echinoderms!
Given that she’s been twisted into a cybernetic monstrosity with functionally no free will, she sets herself to the task.
As far as solutions go, she’s more of a hammer than a scalpel.

STARRO WARS: JADE AND OBSIDIAN #1
    Written by Rainbow Rowell
    Plot by H-E-D
    Art by Kris Anka
Some people have rougher childhoods than others. For Jade and Todd Yifei, “rough childhood” means “raised as agents of rogue Soviet agency turned cartel bent on world dominance”.
But ever since Dick Grayson convinced the Starheart to relinquish control of humanity (see RED X #12!), Meridian is no more. And with the source of their powers embedded in the Tree of Life itself, the twins have never been stronger.
Things are finally looking up for Jade and Obsidian – until their father, Alan Scott, get possessed by an interstellar starfish. Which, it turns out, might be a parole violation.
Can their estranged mother, Rose Yifei, help? Or is she compromised by Starro as well?
Will Jade and Todd overcome this speedbump in their family redemption arc?

    STARRO WARS: RED LANTERN #2
    Tie-In Miniseries
    Plot by EXCITER
    Written by GARTH ENNIS
    Art by SEAN GORDON MURPHY
    “RAGE MACHINES”
Never forgive. Never forget. In the Red Lantern Corps, you kick our ass? We come back and kick your ass twice as hard. Always.
The last time Guy faced off against the nearly unstoppable Doomsday, he got beat. Badly. Like, really badly. It was a complete stomp (see GREEN LANTERN #4). But things are different now. Guy is wearing a totally different color this time and has the power of the entire Red Lantern Corps at his back. There’s no doubt in Guy’s mind that they’re the toughest rage-filled S.O.B.s to ever sling power rings. And Doomsday? His killer instinct is neutered by the Starfish attached to his face. Yeah, he’s still unbelievably dangerous, obviously. But any Red Lantern knows, it’s righteous rage that truly makes you strong - and Starro’s got Doomsday acting like an emotionless tool. That’s a weakness.
So place your damn bets. The Red Lantern Corps is going to take away Starro’s most powerful weapon... or die trying!

'OF TWO MINDS' part 1 'PSYCHO'
•DOCTOR FATE, master mage and agent of the LORDS OF ORDER, is immune to STARRO infection thanks to wearing the Helm of Fate. If only more heroes wore impregnable masks and helmets! While the world's protectors vacillate between fending off and serving Starro, Fate's supernatural senses detect imbalances in the arcane aether which lead him to Concordance Nuclear Research in Dunwich, Massachusetts.
•Professor MARTIN STEIN and nuclear activist RONNIE RAYMOND are bonded to create the atomic FIRESTORM... but their human guise has a Starro stuck to his face and their horribly perverted nuclear elemental form isn't acting like other possessed heroes. This DEATHSTORM takes a break from gleefully irradiating researchers and carefully collecting experimental fusion reactors to take Fate apart boson by lepton!
•Will the arrival of the Medusa Masked empathic vampire known as the PSYCHO-PIRATE make Fate feel better or worse?

    TITANS ORIGINS - Part 3
BEIJING - The modern day has presented many challenges to China. It has been decided that The Great Ten may not be enough. Therefore, the Justice League of China is formed - for both practical and propaganda purposes. Among the recruits are KONG KENAN (the star of a viral video in China, of a young Chinese man defending fellow citizens) and SHADO FEI (the daughter of the late Accomplished Perfect Physician). The duo suffer a training from hell under Fang Zhifu.
Shado is very skeptical of Kong, who is more or less the unofficial leader of the group and the most popular. Though genetically altered to mimic the powers of Superman, Kong is a teenager and can at times be a bully. Additionally, Shado is treated extremely unfairly by Fang Zhifu.
Things come to a head when Kong is commanded by Fang Zhifu to kill Shado. Supposedly, Shado is secretly a member of a democratic underground resistance in China, sent to spy on the Justice League of China. Though Kong agonizes over the decision to serve his country or his conscience, the decision is taken away by the timely arrival of DONNA TROY. An Amazonian can of whoop ass is opened on the collective Justice League of China, and Donna escapes with Shado and Kong in tow.

Sorry for the lack of involvement this past month. Been in kind of a quarantine funk. About to go on vacation, so hopefully I'll come back in higher spirits.

My heartfelt apologies. August has been an amazingly busy month for me and I was unable to put forth comments on each issue put out by all of you hard working posters. ut I will take one of everything.

There is some darn fine creativity going on, with special shoutout to Starro Wars and the tie-ins. Great stuff, everyone. 1 of everything for me, please.

Every post I make, it should be assumed by the reader that the following statement is attached: "It's all subjective. What works for me doesn't necessarily work for you, and vice versa, and that's ok. You may have a different opinion on it, but this is mine. That's the wonderful thing about being a comics fan, it's all subjective."
