Default Has there ever been any mutant who’s just straight up lied about their origin...

...to avoid all the anti mutant sentiment in the MU?
Maybe they dropped some well timed sound bytes during a battle w. plenty of bystanders and/or press within earshot alluding to the supercollider accident that supercharged their cells, or the radioactive insert animal that bit them or how they’re a strange visitor from another planet or something.

As a minority myself I’m not sure how I’d feel about someone having done that, but I just wondered if that had ever been explored in any of the X books.

Squirrel Girl was a liar and a fraud.

What? She’s not really half girl half squirrel?

The pretender Squirrel Girl must stand trial for her crime.

In The Ultimates that was basically Janet van Dyne, since in that universe people were even more racist against mutants.

But in 616, mutants as long as they do not show "pride" or claim rights are tacitly accepted.

I believe Dazzler did at first, lead people to believe the light effects were special effects, not her own doing. So she was using her powers but not owning to them.

Polaris hid her green hair, don't know if that counts.

Pretty sure Mystique has told nothing but lies about her son’s origin.

Didn't Deadpool think he was a mutant at some point? Not the same thing as what folks are discussing in here but I guess that'd count as lying to himself.

But wasn't this just when she didn't know she was a mutant yet? I'm not sure if I remember it correctly.

she asked beast to keep her secret about it to which he thought. "she must be a latent mutant" so i dont think she was intentionally lying more like protecting herself since not a lot of people are born with green hair. that;'s why not sure if it fits the mold.

Mystique has almost never told the truth. The only truth she's told was that she loves Irene. I wonder if she even lied to her when they first met: like, did Raven meet her as a man or as a woman? Who revealed they had powers first?

Mystique is the worst! Deception is straight up built in with that lady!

That is a good question. Does anyone know how they met?
