Default Superman #24 Discussion and Spoilers

Wraps up this storyline and sets up the 25 anniversary issue. It was ok, Xarnadoth feels like an “eh” villain to me. Not as annoying as Rogal but “this is the greatest of all the Lords of Chaos” isn’t enough on its own to make me love her. I did love seeing Clark wear the helmet of Nabu for a bit, that’s the kind of comic book team up s*** I live for. Also Bendis writes a really good Bones, kinda wish the DEO played a bigger role in his run.

This felt too much like a Doctor Fate story guest starring Superman. Nothing in this battle said "Superman" to me, you could have swapped out Clark for Wonder Woman or Shazam and told this tale with almost no change.

And the "Greatest Lord of Chaos" was using words to attempt what the story couldn't. A Lord of Chaos should be just that- chaotic. His whole plan should be a story written by Neil Gaiman fed through a paper-shredder and put back together randomly before being handed to Grant Morrison to interpret". This guy felt like a random cosmic level entity trying to obtain a McGuffin just because bendus had a page count to fill.

Yeah, for good or ill, this felt like a classic team up book and I love those so it worked for me well enough that I can overlook they said Superman is weak to magic again, though it's not the most reliable source and not confirmed so that's good.

Much like the end of his Iron Man run where he made Memphisto talk in Bendis-speak, a few of Xanadoth’s quips took me right out of the story. Hearing a primordial being cracking wise is strange.
