Well, I have some Brazilians who are a friend of the family and their take is that Cuban/Brazilian/etc... is a form of cultural identity, but it's more nationalism than race. He loves world cup soccer and gets bummed if he misses even a single Brazilian match... even though he's lived in the US for several decades. It's not about "race", but about the PLACE where he grew up.
