I think the series would have been better off with a Wild Pack that consisted of more characters like Sandman -- people with powers or advanced tech -- rather than faceless goons who the audience won't remember except for maybe the one guy who flirts too much with Sable.

If Marvel asked me to pitch a "traditional" Silver Sable series, I'd definitely make sure to include characters on her team that I think might pull in a few extra fans, especially Spidey fans: Prowler, Rocket Racer, Annex, etc.

That all being said, I too would likely snatch up an omnibus of the Silver Sable series.

Agreed. They had the Wild Pack which was super powered people. Sandman, Puma I think, Paladin, a few others. The series was promised it would be about them, and then we got thug1 and thug 2. Who they tried to make compelling, but they were red shirts, so that Silver couldn't die.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

On the topic of Liefeld his early work looks so much like Todd McFarlane (wiith a mix of Art Adams) that I would not know if thats was even Liefeld because as we lnow SS is usually a Spidey character and Todd was one of the big Spidey artists.

Anyway back to the 90s series. I thought it wasn't bad, but I only had a few issues.

Imagine if the Spider-Office had let McFarlane do a Silver Sable solo series instead of Spider-Man back in 1990? That would have put Sable on the map...

Most likely! Not that the art in the original ongoing was bad but Todd McFarlane sold books and of course he's simply a great artist.

Even when it was coming out, I didn't know anyone that actually read it unless it happened to have a memorable guest star that month. It was just one of those series that was just there.
That sums up my feelings for that series.
