And these were stories by her actual creators. Unlike Batman, the Joker and pretty much every iconic Bat-Mythos character, Harley shot to popularity and iconic status while she was mostly still in the hands of her creators who were able to shape her key characteristics and dynamics. And give her an arc. She's become more than that now, but when we see other authors takes on her and her dynamics with the Joker and Ivy in particular, it comes across as less interesting fanfic where the characters feel a bit "off." I think she's a character that doesn't always quite work as well removed from her original context.
