I think they were trying to imply he couldn't see because he was raising and giving his powers to "Clark" (you know, that child that he stole) so that made him not able to see, but it wasn't because Superman was able to actually hurt him.
you can say that in any story or character, no? Duke Thomas' powers are effectively magic (at least about as magical as Superman's), if the story needed to happen we'll see him have an until now unknown level of power to fight Superman. iunno, it just seems like a cop out answer when people go "It's Superman, if they need him to do something he'll do it" when talking about him facing other character; that's a trope not a mark of his power.
