Default Superman's future: Film or HBO Max Show?

Superman's not in the greatest place right now compared to his other Justice League buddies on screen right now. Batman is getting a new rebooted solo film trilogy with The Batman, two previous versions of Batman (Affleck and Keaton) are showing up in the Flash movie, and even Batman's other archnemesis the Joker just got a billion dollar movie. Wonder Woman has one successful film and another ready for theaters whenever theaters are capable of safely handling big blockbusters again. Aquaman has a successful movie with a sequel and a horror spin off green lit (Aquaman 2, The Trench). The Flash is still getting a movie even if bolstered by two Batmen.

Batman is also getting a Year One GCPD series on HBO Max. Green Lantern is getting some kind of HBO Max show too. And Aquaman is getting a cartoon miniseries there as well.

Meanwhile Superman is getting a show on the rather niche CW, starring Supergirl's somewhat disappointing/divisive/lesser take on Clark, who on top of that is going the Superdad route which again is divisive. Maybe you're a fan of the CW Superman, maybe you aren't but think that he'll fare better in his own show. Maybe you like the Superdad take and are willing to bet that the CW won't mess it up too badly. But no matter how you personally feel about the upcoming show, you have to know that it's not going to take the world by storm or grow the audience very much or whatever. Best case scenario is it manages to do as well as the other CW DC shows like Flash and Supergirl.

But a show doesn't necessarily have to be that low. Stranger Things, the Mandalorian, Game of Thrones, etc. What if Superman got that instead?

    Or a film reboot?

Which has a better chance at making Superman relevant again and why and/or how?

    HBO Max Show.

You cannot do much with superhero films anymore.

It could go either way. Or both: HBO Max movies, but cameos in other DC superheros' theatrical movies.

Could HBO Max even pull off Superman properly? I’m sure it’d look better than any CW superhero show but I don’t think Supes works as well on the small screen(live-action) as he does on film. Then again, HBO Max is making a GL show and if they can pull it off well then hey who knows? Superman could work in that format.

feature film. When the films land, they generally trump all the other options.

It just needs to be in capable hands.

If Zack's JL does well ,it is conceivable he could be given the opportunity to finish his planned 5 part Superman arc with MoS2 and ZSJL2 /JL 2 in a serialised format also(with an option of entire compilation as a film for DVD)

As I said elsewhere, best case scenario would be for him to get his own movieverse ala Battinson, preferably inspired by Pre-Crisis or All-Star Superman.
Another grimdark take won't go over well, but I wouldn't be against Cavill continuing to play Superman in other DCEU movies (probably not another solo, thought).

    A film reboot.

I am afraid a HBO MAX Superman movie would try to focus on sex and nudity to sell Superman.

Movie. He's already getting a TV show on CW. They aren't going to do two of them competing with each other. Who do you think he is? Batman or something? A lot of it may depend on how this Snyder cut does. But I suspect Flashpoint is a hard reboot and Cavill is getting replaced. In which case, he's getting a movie reboot to make sure that there is a "new" Superman in town.

I'm not so confident there'll be a hard reboot. It doesn't look like they intend to make Battinson a part of the DCEU, so would they make a DCEU Batman running concurrently with the other take?
I know it's DC and they'll find a way to shove more Batman material everywhere, but I think this would probably hurt the performance of both new Batmen.

I don't know, they had Supergirl and Krypton on at the same time. And even if they have the same character, could a CW show really compete with an HBO show?

    Nah, not at all.

If anything it might just end the CW show sooner than later. A high quality HBO show is a whole new ballgame.

    I would say a movie.

Television shows are often too niche now like the CW and, frankly, HBO is pretty much niche too. Not everybody by a long shot has or wants HBO. Like a Netflix series, it could be great but if most people never see it, it doesn't help much.

But it's a tough place to be in right now. The movie Superman desperately needs a reboot. The question is whether to reboot him as part of the DC Cinematic Universe or solo.
    Power with Girl is better.

I don't really see Superman being at a worst place right now that he is has been during the 10 last years but anyway, give us a new animated show.

HBO has become a joke to me. They care more about sex than quality, Looking back on Game of Thrones, that show was porn. I don't want to see Superman become the next game of thrones.

Superman belongs on film. Why does he need an HBO show when WB can make his movies. I can understand if some may prefer HBO if Disney was making Superman but WB are very good handling harder stories that we have already seen with many of his animated movies.
