In several weeks' time, when summer ends and autumn starts, driving cross country to see the colors of autumn is the best. It was an experience for us many years ago after flying to the US west coast for a wedding, fthen lying to Detroit on a red-eye flight (and seeing the Grand Canyon directly below us), then driving from Detroit to Washington then New York and back (we bypassed the turnpike to Philadelphia which I suggested, much to my regret ever since as I wanted to see that historic city). We don't have those browns and reds and yellows back home. And the weather was cold (for us) but not too cold.
