Optimus was so much more competent and confident and knows what to hell to do that is why he was resurrexted (aside fans) in Gen1.
Rodimus did open the Matrix but constantly doubted himself and pondered what Optimys would do. ( in character)
Blood lust?
Optimus shows him why he should have just left the gun alone and let Prime deal with Megatron, via tearing his damn head off.
Magnus, got blown apart and had to be put back together after failing to open the Matrix.
Do not remember Magnus is n show but Jazz did do SOME things.
