Not really. She is one of the original Marvel mutants.

Okay, so say that the detractors are all right and the Five's Resurrection Protocols only create clones and they don't have the "real" souls of the dead mutants.

What if Wanda were to take part in a ritual with Magik, [A] and other spiritually inclined mutants to summon those souls and implant them in all of the resurrected mutants?

    Would that help redeem her?

Nobody believes the retcon, plus even if you assume that it's true, Wanda and Pietro still have an X-gene, had powers that emerged the way mutant powers do, and register as mutants in every possible way, so they're mutants in every way that counts.

If Marvel cared about telling stories with these characters it would actually be a good thing to explore through them - what makes a mutant - but of course it turned out the retcon was not about setting up stories for them but just an excuse to keep them away from the "all mutants are exiled to another planet" story that was rumored to be planned at the time (and was abandoned in favor of Inhumans vs. X-Men, the only thing that could possibly be worse).

Only if the writer didn't have her screw it up, which of course he would.

I think the real problem here is that there is no way to be redeemed for doing something that monstrous, which is why Wanda's fans mostly don't want her to be redeemed for it, we just want it wiped off her record and blamed on someone else (Doom, Chthon, Set, Immortus, name your poison). No one can ever be a hero again if they deliberately wiped out a whole race; even villains on Krakoa only tried to do that, they didn't succeed. All that really works is the standard "she didn't do it" retcon that every other hero gets except Wanda.

Any association has been nothing but problems for her. It's time to keep her away.

Nah, even that would be too lenient a punishment if she were guilty, which, of course, is why she can't be guilty.

Still, if your favorite character is ever blamed for something they couldn't possibly have done, I won't hate them. Why should I? A page of bad writing doesn't outweigh decades of other stories.

Look I don't like the retcon anymore than the next dude cause in the grand scheme of Continuity it makes no fucking sense, but it is the new normal. And as long as Wanda is pulling that pretender heat on the X-Side of the spectrum it's not going away. We all have to admit if another X Vs Wanda event happened we'd all read it marvel knows that.

Since I spend so much of my time in these threads denying that Wanda could have been responsible for M-Day no matter what we're shown on panel, I sympathize with fans who don't accept the retcon and are just waiting for it to be reversed. Why accept a status quo that makes no sense? It makes more sense to just assume that Magneto is still the twins' father and just wait until that is acknowledged again, as it probably will be.

I don't know if they're planning to reverse the retcon, but honestly I think Hickman's inevitable Wanda story would be exactly the same even if it were. If she were his idol's daughter again, Exodus would just hate her more and double down on preaching against her.

The thing is... We don't need a mutant story for Wanda. She maybe needs it to get closure or some clout or whatever, but the X-Men don't. She's never been an X-Men and her being mutant was a quirk more than anything. Like Children Crusade and her part in Empyre showed us, her stories about redemption are about her and her only. She doesn't care about mutants and we don't need Wanda to be a savior or anything.

No more Wanda in X-Comics please
