Do you like Peter Parker's characterization in the BND era?

I hated the BND era with a passion. There is not a single era I hated more then that. Spencer’s era is exponential better then Slott’s. I have been over the reasons time and time again, but grading them so far Spencer is trending A-/B+ territory and Slott was a flat out grade of F ( and without Spider Island, RYV snd maybe 2 other stories I would give him a zero.

The first Spider-Man comic I bought was when the 'Big Time' storyline started and I've been collecting ever since. I really only knew Slott's characterization and maybe Bendis' from New Avengers. I had moved in with a friend and her fiance mid-2008 and they were really into different comics than I was at that time. I was only collecting Star Wars, Transformers, Witchblade, and everything X-Men related at the time. Dude had been a collector of Spider-Man, Avengers, and Iron Man mostly and shared everything he had thought was essential for me to read and get caught up on for Secret Invasion. So, he had me read Avengers Disassembled, New Avengers and Mighty Avengers. Iron Man and Spider-Man from Civil War on to whatever the current stuff was. I had an entire Month or so off before starting a new job and that's what I filled a lot of time with. That and smoking loads of pot. It was intense and so great! Anyway, most of that was JMS, Slott, Bendis and a couple other guys and I loved it all. So much so, I started collecting all of those titles and over the years collecting trades of all the stories I read during that time. I really like Slott's Peter until the end of Superior Spider-Man and Amazing came back. That's when Slott really lost his voice for me. But he eventually got it back after a year and finished his run beautifully in my opinion. I find it hard to read a lot of other writer's versions because I mostly know Slott's interpretation.

Yeah, to me Peter felt more shallow and at times incompetent compared to how he had been depicted prior to that.

Oh hell no, I hated Peter's overall characterization during Slott's run. Peter being emotionally and socially regressed was one of my primary problems with the BND Era. That said, Pete's overall characterization has vastly improved in recent years although at times he still comes across as too much of a man-child for my liking (which I blame on Marvel Editorial).

For clarification I don't think you should group Slott's run with the BND era since those are largely two entirely seperate entities, even though Slott's solo run spring boarded off of it.

That said, naw BND was largely unremarkable in hindsight. Side effect of the office having rotating writers (and artists) for so long is there was really no distinct style or tone to really set it apart.

I dont really like Peter character overall in BND day, its depressing and the regression, I feel like this run looked down on people in their 20s 30s that still live in their parents single, Im sorry but I knew people who still does that because the economy was just that hard back and still is, I lived in Miami and well I assume NYC is more expensive. Peter choosing to live with 2 toxic roomates like the Gonzalez siblings seem masochistic then, I dont like the new supporting cast and love interest either and yes I admit Im biased as a marriage and also while books were coming out, it was during a dark time in my life so my memory of BND era Spider-man is associated with that.

Peter Parker characterisation in BND was very well writen.
I can´t compare it with the current characerisation of Spider-Man as i am not reading curently Amazing Spider-Man.

As far as the premise goes, BND's peter Parker is really good with some of the stories inside the BND are instant classics like American Son, Joe Kelly's Rhino, and The Gauntlet. But to be honest, BND doesn't suck because of Dan Slott, Joe Kelly, Marc Guggenheim, and Bob Gale, though Joe Kelly's BND stories are the best out of the bunch.
