    Default Krakoan Democracy

Ya know with the US Presidential Election finally heating up it got me wondering, one of the things Hickman established was that small council is meant to be a temporary solution. If Krakoa starting running things via Presidency/Election who do you think would win and end up running the country? Obvious guess is Charles but from a voting standpoint it seems Erik has a lot more clout amongst the people so I'm gonna say Erik.

A single leader would suck, the collaborative leadership of the Quiet Council voting on decisions is a lot more interesting than one guy making unilateral decisions (even if Xavier, Mags and Moira are pulling the strings from behind the scenes)

Storm would win. Cyclops would come close, but receive fewer votes because he isn't as likable. Magneto would also get a lot of the former villain vote.

Although, I agree that the Council is a more interesting concept.

I'd love to see something akin to democracy, I know an eventual conflict will most likely be the catalyst for it.

I mean I'm not disagreeing but Hickman had them flat out say this is only temporary so it's gonna happen *shrugs*

I guess elections are made for that: let the people decide…

    I can’t imagine Hickman’s Xavier stepping down, though…

Falling into a representative democracy would be a massive failure for Krakoa. They formed a post-scarcity society, so they can easily form an anarchist communal direct democracy. If they had any kind of representative it should be just a speaker, to represent Krakoa to the rest of the world, and some form of council to serve as the checks and balance for the captains

My hopes are that Krakoa would endure and we will see several council formations.

A permanente council with the same members is terrible. Also i want to see no powerfull mutants holding power.

They maybe are not fitted to fight but there is no indication that the current members are the best ever to manage something as complex as a nation.

The main problem today is the census. They have many dead people on the waiting list to be resurrected and that makes setting an election date problematic.

Charles would be a candidate and I don't see any senior X-men objecting unless he does more shady **** in an obvious way. Like, Jean and Ororo could have many votes but as the status quo is right now I see them simply being part of their government. He and Magneto form a coalition so he would run for president.

Cyclops and Wolverine, although popular, do not seem to have the slightest interest in being part of the government.

    So, maybe, something like Xavier-Sunspot-Apocalypse-Shaw.

The way it seems to me (purely personal viewpoint) the Krakoa status quo is not going to last long enough for that to happen.

But i kinda like the image of an adult Leech on the council. He practicaly makes any group of mutants around him equal in terms of powers.
Not to forget that he has seen both mutants and normal humans in their best and their worst, so he could bring a very balanced viewpoint to the council.

id like to see a trasitional period betwen QC and democacry, where each table gets 1 new seat that are voted by the community, each table can start getting specific responsibilities like the spring table has, increasing the political depth of this universe while keeping the qc dynamic open.

One thing to consider is that, with so many telepaths, there's really no such thing as a secret ballot anymore. So, a direct democracy is the only way to go, with the Council around to decide stuff that has to remain secret or has to be decided very fast.

Dictators often say that but never give over power when the time comes to pass the torch to democratic leadership. It's telling how Xavier shut down Emma Frost's protests about democracy real quick and the subject was never broached again. Hickman has the characters say lots of things, that isn't to say he thinks they're not lying. Xavier's been very shady, post-Krakoa.

I fully expect this will be a point of conflict in the future. Some people may want democracy soon, some may want democracy eventually, some do not see any value in the input of the population. Plus, I could see a democractic government becoming aware of Xavier, Magneto, and Moira pulling the strings. For example the nation being guided towards certain actions and policies the people do not want nor agree with, and the current president and cabinet being baffled why they have no actual power.

Though I'd love to see what unique form of government would come about from a species that casually violates one anothers minds on a regular basis, and privacy and free will is often a joke.

Their bodies and minds are literally property of the state[that is also literally feeding on them]. Human politics doesn't even work on humans; Krakoans will have to form new concepts of governance if this concept is to persist long(which it won't, the messy implosion is telegraphed from the start).
Let the flames destroy all but that which is pure and true!
