The Sword of Bones WAS a sword definitely, magical, and belonging to Storm's ancestor Ashake, who also invented tarot. Big missed opportunity, since it was right there and on theme.

I agree, if I had my way Black Panther wouldn't be anywhere near the X-Men, let alone Storm. But Vita clearly has an affinity for writing strong black female characters and Wakanda is home to many of them so it is what it is. The Sword of Bone would've been more interesting but for all we know this could still end up tying into Storm's bloodline. If a god did enchant that weapon, it could've been one of her ancestors. Maybe even that classified woman she's been seen fighting in those covers.

As much as some would like to see her far away from Wakanda her mythos is one that is deeply connected to Wakanda. So this approach makes sense considering her history.

I was hoping for some over complex phasing explanation since we can see her hands here and there aren't any tattoos on them. But I figured gloves to match her ridiculous pirate costume, too.

I like the white costume, but I think I would prefer it if the black bits were gold like the other costume.
