Default Tales From The Dark Multiverse: War of the Gods Announced

TALES FROM THE DARK MULTIVERSE: WAR OF THE GODS #1 (December 1)

    Written by VITA AYALA

    Art by ARIEL OLIVETTI

    Cover by DAVID MARQUEZ

In this 48-page, $5.99 Prestige Format one-shot, the realms of the gods have been turned upside down and inside out, on the verge of engulfing Earth and its people. Only one hero stands to defend it: Wonder Woman!

But this dark mirror image of an epic tale features a Wonder Woman who is ready to destroy our world!

Cursed by the evil goddess of magic, Hecate, the Amazon warrior princess Diana has become a weapon of vengeance ready to tear down any god or superhero that stands in her way. Will Earth and its heroes survive her might? Or are they doomed to worship the dark princess of the Amazons for the rest of eternity?!

This looks interesting.... I hope we get some awesome stuff in it.

I believe that is Hercules and Hermes, probably a reference to the "stronger than Hercules and swifter than Hermes" line. Orion and Shazam make sense being in the cover considering their allegiances. Guess the evil WW's big moment isn't just fighting the Gods but, slapping Superman around? and I think that is Isis below him. I have 0 idea way Lobo is there though. I also think Diana is holding Cronus's sickle from Bryne's run.

I wanted to find a good Lobo meme that said something like, "Cause I'm the Main Man" but I found this one instead.

Really I have no idea either, just going for some humor.
I think restorative nostalgia is the number one issue with comic book fans.
A fine distinction between two types of Nostalgia:

Reflective Nostalgia allows us to savor our memories but accepts that they are in the past
Restorative Nostalgia pushes back against the here and now, keeping us stuck trying to relive our glory days.

Actually Lobo might be there because in the past, Lobo has always had a thing for Wonder Woman. That might come into play.

Meh. I hate to be that person, but I'm not too thrilled with an alternate universe event featuring a bloodthirsty, evil ass Wonder Woman.

Below Superman is Zatanna in her George Perez costume.

Talk about a rare sighting, a non-Batman Dark multiverse story and an alternate universe Wonder Woman who isn't arm candy for Bats or Supes.

Heracles and Hermes were also supporting characters in Perez's Wonder Woman run and involved in the War of the Gods event, along with the others like Lobo and Shazam, also so I think that's why they're there also.

Wait, Hecate...I’m getting some Justice League Dark vibes here, even if it is calling back to the 90’s/late 80’s with the character designs and story

Hecate and Diana possibly taking control of her power is something that goes back to the Perez days and was part of Circe's post-Crisis initial motivations in War of the Gods.

Yep. The whole extra large, extra grimdark phase that DC seems to be going through right now is extremely tedious, and while Wonder Woman is more popular right now than she has been in a long time, DC hardly manages to create any stories that serves as good depictions to new fans of the character.

I also think the source of Diana's heel turn betrays a lack of imagination. She's cursed! By evil Hekate!

Got to be honest, I didn’t know this. This run/story was before I got into comics. Interesting to see there’s always been some connections, I just thought it was a thing Justice League Dark did.

Nope, the premise of these one shots is that they take place on doomed earths where nothing ever ends well so no ones getting saved.

It was kind of forgotten/dropped shortly after and JLD is the first place that’s picked up on it again in recent years, so it’s only recent the connection’s been picked up again. I recall around the time JLD started, Tynion said Perez Wonder Woman was one of the books that influenced his writing on it.
