Hickman's Avengers Reading Order

Wasn't there a sort of 2-parter or continuation recently, I think it was Avengers #28 taking place right after New Avengers #?... Damn, I can't remember. But when I was reading it I knew it took place right after.

Avengers #28 takes place before New Avengers #17. Basically Hulk joins in Avengers #28 and then in New Avengers #17, he's just there.

I gotta ask you guys this... is INFINITY actually essential to Hickman's run? Also, have yet to read his Avengers but love the New Avengers work. Can I keep reading without having to pick up Avengers? I'm not a battle guy. Am more into characterizations. I keep hearing Avengers is the 'battle book'.

I would say your probably ok to skip most of the Avengers run, but I would pick up the newer issues after the time jump, because they're starting to intersect more. I think there was even an interview with Hickman where he said that as he was writing he realized he was answering questions in Avengers that were brought up in NA and same for the other way around. I'm not sure where that interview was though.

Yeah I definitely would, but I did just read today's newest issues (A #38 & NA #26) and the A one does bring up some things that happened in the first few Avengers arcs (pre-infinity). I think it explains it ok enough that you probably won't need to read the arcs themselves, just possibly ask someone for clarification if you have questions.

As for Infinity, you can probably get away without it. So far I don't think there's really been much reference back to it, besides Thanos being frozen in that cube and the Inhumanity thing starting.

There is no 'battle book'. This is Hickman. Both books have very few battles, which a lot of people have complained about. There is some battling in the very first issues, but it jumps into pretty high concept Hickman-style stuff very quickly.

Also, I think you'll be VERY confused for myriad reasons if you ignore the first 30-some Avengers books. Both Avengers and New Avengers these days intertwine and both liberaly utilize elements introduced over the Avengers run. Know who the ex nihilios are? Starbrand? Know about the earth being seeded with evolution bombs? Know who the 'zebras' are? Well, you will be wondering abut all of that if you neglect the earlier issues of Avengers.

Seriously though, if you're worried about Avengers being a 'battle book' in ANY way you shouldn't worry and whoever told you that is flat out wrong and doing you a massive disservice.

Infinity, on the other hand, can probably be skipped as it's strangely seldom mentioned (other than Thanos and his goonsquad who are now heavily featured in new Avengers) I still think it's an important read though, but it's actually LESS essential to the current issues than the first half of the Avengers run.

Hi guys, I'm new here but it seems I've arrived at the right time - the whole forum looks like it's been reset...

I just wanted to share my suggested reading order for Jonathan Hickman's Avengers run up to Avengers #24.NOW, there's loads of clues as to when things take place in relation to each other and other general chronological changes (suits, references etc.). I made it in Photoshop in true Hickman style, hopefully it looks somewhere close to the quality from the man himself. I took the idea from his INFINITY checklist but added in the whole run from NA #1 onwards.

Sorry man this totally slipped my mind.
Here is my binding order. A few things to note.
1. It's not only Hicknman's stuff it's Avengers-centric so remove what you don't want.
2. I've included Thanos Rising since he becomes a big player later
3. I've included Guardians of the Galaxy due to the "United Cosmic Nations" who show up in Infinity.
4. Secret Avengers picks up on some of the AIM stuff, that happens in Avengers #1-3, Evolution Bombs.
5. Uncanny Avengers, Captain America, Axis. For Havok & Wasp, Old Steve Rogers and Axis respectively.
6. I'm certain I have Mighty Avengers and other Avengers books if you want them too.
