    Default Cover Contest 4/7/21 - 4/13/21 : Catch my eye with your Color Contrast!

    Here we go!

    This is a cover of the “Ghost Rider” I have always liked since… ever. Without knowing why.

    It was some years later that I learned why I liked this cover. There are several beautiful contrasts in it:
    - 1st contrast : the colors that have a majority are called “warm colors” and the colors who have a majority of blue are called “cold colors”. The flames are rather “warm”, the rest being “cold”;
    - 2nd contrast : the orange-yellow of the flames are opposite on the color wheel of the blue/purple of the night and the costume of the Ghost Rider: it’s a complementary contrast. (there are three kinds: orange/blue, red/green, yellow/violet);
    - and, eventually, the colors of the sky and the costume of the Ghost Rider are dark compared to the rest.

    Now, although I’m tempted to make a crash course on the color theory, I don’t think everyone will appreciate it. (Those who want to go deeper will do it. I didn’t find a webpage on the subject in English that was satisfying but who knows…)

    So for this week, the mission is to find a cover that shows an obvious contrast based on colors. It may be pleasant for the eye like the Ghost Rider cover or more conflicting when the contrast is stark like this one:

    I insist on the fact that, despite my long introduction, I don’t expect people to be specialists in color theory, go with your feelings and it will be fine.

    THE RULES:
    1) Post One (& ONLY ONE) Cover that fits the theme of this Week's Contest!
    2) Cover must be from a Published Comic Book or Collected Volume!
    3) Covers must be Posted before Voting Begins!
    4) Voting Begins 12 AM Tuesday and Runs Until 12 AM Wednesday PST (3 AM EST)!
    5) Vote by Posting the name in BOLD of the Poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most! A vote need not be in bold, but it does make it easier to Count-The-Votes!
    6) The Winner of the Contest is the Entry with the MOST Votes after the Voting-Period!
    7) It's Okay to Discuss the Covers but if you Think Someone's Entry Doesn't Fit the Theme or Violates the Rules, you Don't need to Argue it in the thread, Simply Don't Vote for It!
    8) Plus: Occasionally Voting will Result in a Tie! The Person Who Started the Thread will do the Counting that Week will Usually call for a TIE-Breaking --Vote from Someone who has Not Yet Voted!
    9) AFTER the Tie-Breaker Vote, Voting Ends and the Winner is Declared by The One Who Started the Thread (or assigned surrogate) and Thus will do the Counting.
    10) HAVE FUN!

    Good hunt!

    Light colors / Dark colors. Simple but efficient.

    (You can say there’s also a “quantity contrast”: the “light surfaces” are more little than the “dark surfaces”, but I nitpick…)

    For those who aren't versed on the Color Wheel, here it is. Complementary, or in this case, contrasting colors, are opposite on the wheel.

    There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

    I'm not sure how appropriately this cover fits the theme, but the contrasts do pop out at you.

    First one that came to mind. Heavy on the contrast, not so much the color part. That is, if.

    Beefing up the old home security, huh?

    If the contrasts pop out, it’s certainly appropriate… It looks like someone swapped the inks…

    Changed my mind. Love this cover that uses the complimentary colors of red and green without looking like Christmas.
