Aesthetically, Smallville Cyborg was perhaps the best Cyborg. His hardware was on the inside not the outside and while he still had the tragic background, he never dwelled on it too much. He stood among other "wish fulfillment" heroes just fine.

This is right, particularly with regards to the face.



Lots of versions have had really good body-designs and logos, from Young Justice to other Boursassa designs.

Depending on how his powers work, the YJ facial design might be fine too.



His powers should work like the Rebirth version, where almost every cell of his body is cybernetic. That level of self-mastery actually explains the logo-- It's just a form of self-expression, since that's what other heroes in the DCU do and since he wants to be recognized.

If his powers work like that, you can just use the Young Justice design. Age him up if you feel like you have to.



If there's a tragic period for him it should be when he's still mastering his powers, like most other heroes.

The internal conflict can pop up in ways besides looks. He can still question how much agency he has (like the DCEU), still deal with his father's expectations, still deal with the loss of his mother, still deal with government security fears, deal with atheism (since he died and was reborn), etc. In terms of father-son dynamics and being a hometown hero, you can always look at Creed as a blueprint.

Then you move on to making him smart and entertaining to read, develop his mythos, etc. You can have this character humorously fighting Kaiju in Japan one minute and then seriously engage in conversations on technological development and what that means for the world (like Black Mirror). You can cover telemedicine, police surveillance, etc. That's what 90% of the book (or whatever medium the story is set in) should be--fun and thought provoking.

Not to mention that if your going to use the Motherbox/Fatherbox thing, they should use it for a hell of a lot more than boomtube/random side trips to Apokolips

His progression should be covered in his first arc, and then not brought up anymore than the Flash getting his entire body charred by the lightning and chemicals.

Thematically, this would show a fear of the technological unknown to an embracing of it, where he looks sleek/advanced when in action and can look fully normal anytime he wants.

In terms of Film and TV production, this has to make it easier/cheaper to make Cyborg live-action material.

Yes, agreed-- He works with/for STAR Labs, who are constantly learning and exploring. He should take full advantage of how big the DCU is, finding himself in all sorts of interesting places.

You can also have him team up with other underutilized scientist characters, from Dr. Veritas to The Atom to that guy who created the AMAZO OS.

I liked the David Walker version with him able to regenerate. DC could easily use this version for Cyborg solo projects without worrying about too much costly cgi. He could be like Popeye and eat synthethic food/protein that restores him back to normal or maybe something like the Hulk which John Semper Jr. touched on in his run. It's sad that they kind of cast him aside as now just a supporting character in the Teen Titans. Cyborg and other cyborgs in the DC universe could atleast substain a decent run. But now Batman is going cyberpunk.

As beautifully as this positive outlook has been laid, these elderly men from a past time can’t see things like this. They can’t be bothered to put the effort into the character. They have an idea of what “their fanbase” wants to see and they see no reason to ever deviate from that line of thought.

Outside media is the only place where you’ll see a character like Cyborg show any growth. The books are written with a different clientele in mind.

Honestly, they could just have the walking tank look be Vic’s “Red Skies/S€@t is serious” armor (everyone else has a set) for keeping his fleshy bits intact (as you do)

He should definitely have a more Kirby-esqe look to his cybernetics (where they are distinguishable) if he’s plugged into a MotherBox. Like there is a whole raft of stuff that could have/could still be done with Vic that doesn’t revolve around keeping John Stewart out of the JL

Returning to Johns though, can someone explain the claim that he sabotaged Snyder by leaking plot points to Feige

And only very recently like literally a year ago we have gotten cyborgs who have arcs that step away from the typical

Yeah, I mean, a big part of Cyborg's character is overcoming his self-loathing and hatred over being turned into a cyborg, so his story is more about accepting his looks and how he's a robot now rather than the adonis-type he was before the accident.

Justice League Action went with a more Kirby-look in my opinion, but it was kind of blocky.
