Really big fan of how completely "Maximum Nerdy..." this went.

Crazy 'Verse that seemingly felled even a group of mutants protected by the children of Apocalypse? Went so "Nose Over Tail..." that they sent one of them to pull a holographic Princess Leia.

Just send Sean and Unus. One Riot/One Ranger...

I think "first mutant of the second generation" is meant to No-Prize the way Apocalypse gets called "the first mutant," when Selene is waaaay older than him.

Well, nothing is accidental with Hickman.

Would the first generation be Selene plus guys like the Neyaphem and Cheyarafim?

Also I take it Genesis is actually Annihilation, either defected or meat-puppet?

someone caught how the arrakoans probably failed because they were casting their powers in a circle (the scene around the fire place), when the X is a better shape that creates even more power from mutant magic.
Man tini's datapages (that i was always THE ONE. to decipher) are all making sense now in so many ways, she realy did add so much to this event.

Right, Apocalypse talks about how the X only requires 4 members to function (Four Horsemen) while the circle requires 10 (Swordbearers).

4 and 10 are the key numbers. He has empowered three mutants already for his new coven, Rogue, Betsy, and Rictor. From the covers, maybe Cypher is the fourth and wants to recreate his Horsemen?

This was a great read. Really dense, but I enjoyed the building of Arakko and putting more mutants there adds more stakes. Apocalypse is really moving heaven and earth for his girl and I can relate to that. Art was OK enough, but knowing these are supposed to be Yu's last interior pages for the rest of his career makes it a bit sad, and gives a bigger sense of appreciation. Guess I'll buy the TPB for this later.
9/10, because I'm a fucking nerd who can't hold his boner for this weird stuff.

Agree and this is exactly where Hickman made 2 steps back one step forward if you will.I tend to see a method to his world building which builds on levels of threat and grows incredible connections. Now with this amazing retcon that Apocalypse is the first of the second generation ,it makes a clean fit on how Selene is the 'Apocalypse' or the first of the first gen.The problem is by bringing her on Krakoa they missed an opportunity to make her a standalone villain with a stake in this story. What I mean is if Apocalypse betrayed the entire first gen with the Arrako war, it would be epic if Selene was introduced as the leader of the first gen, who survived Apocalypse's betrayal and sees it as her duty to ressurect all her people of the first gen and destroy Apocalypse and all the second gens as unworthy pretenders! That way she becomes a villain with a cause revealing Apocalypse's treachery.Obviously by putting Selene on Krakoa Hickman somehow wrote the grand outline but missed to make Selene a bigger character in it, which is a pity.

Cool issue. Yu's art was great. He ended his run with top quality.

That gave me hope for Selene's future appearances. I think they've been holding her back a little bit because she has a role in Captain America, but once that's done I'm excited to see what Hickman has planned for her.

Isn’t the first generation a reference to the mutant civilization that existed on Okkara? Selene may have been a member of that but seeing as when Apocalypse sealed away Arrako there were enough mutants at the time to create a whole civilization wouldn’t it make sense that mutants were cropping up before him?

It doesn't have to because Apocalypse is immortal. Those mutants who founded Akkaro may be much, much younger than Apocalypse.

Great background about Arakko provided with very interesting original characters?

Perfect and compelling connection to the ending of Excalibur?

Mystery and hype in abundance to prepare us for XoS?

    Thank you, Jonathan

And Tini Howard! I think she's done a piss poor job on get Excalibur run but alternatively her Apocalypse has been straight fire from the start.
