Third outcome, neither really wins. The humans might prevail over the mutants, or vice versa, but at the cost of their future ability to survive and thrive on the planet that they think of as their birthright and God-given inheritance. For one example, Powers of X's far-future flashforward showed that humanity only "won" because they pretty much sold their souls to the machines, which ultimately resulted in them being assimilated and consumed by the techno-organic Phalanx. Another example would be Days of Future Past, where the Sentinels gained sentience and took over (North) America, controlling humans and mutants alike, so even if humans thought it was worthwhile to keep mutants or potential mutants from having children, I wouldn't think all that many of them would just accept machines controlling their daily lives.
