No Man's Land is pretty good, although the beginning of the story is better IMO (when its a real survivalist tale)

I greatly prefer Knightfall overall except for KnightQuest: The Search (detailing Bruce Wayne's globetrotting post- back breaking) as it just spins its wheels until they get him recovered & back to Gotham to take on Azrael

I liked both, I preffered Knightfall.
I would read them as follows:
    1. Sword of Azrael
    2. Knightfall new omnibus or new tpbs
    3. Contagion
    4. Legacy
    5. No Man's Land new omnibus

Contagion and Legacy are good prequels to read before No Man's Land.

No Man's Land was the first time Gotham City was defined as a 3 islands city and the map that's still used to this day was first created. That's my main reason getting it.

It's probably one of the greatest examples of a line wide crossover that works (pre-2000's).

It's pretty amazing to see the Bat-Family take on a different aspect of a Gotham in ruins.

It's where my modern day Batman collection starts. I have the major stories collected in trades pre-No Man's Land, but from there on, I have everything. So I count it as my starting point. Love it.

You ought to read "Contagion", "Legacy" and "Catclysm" to complete if you don't have yet.
And you say you've got "everything" after ?

    Me too!

The only thing I have is pre-NML is the lead up like Contagion, Legacy, Cataclysm and of course Nightfall.

You still have some of the Best Batman ever.
But there are some of the greatest short stories in the 70's/80's/early 90's.
(I could give you some recommendations if you'd care).

I will check those out.. thank you.

And by everything, I mean I have the majority of Batman stories collected in trade paperback. Between Batman and Detective Comics, up to Rebirth, when I started collecting individual issues. Do I have literally EVERYTHING collected since No Man's Land? No lol.

I've read Year One and some of the older stuff; unfortunately it just doesn't gel with my reading sensibilities.

I find the older stuff a bit too wordy (for example I love Thor and I tried tried Simonson and I hated it), but if you have something that must read please I would love some recommendations.
