Why name the badass mutant soldier from the future 'Cable'?

Pretty simple question. Does anyone know why Liefeld named him Cable?

Seems like an odd name, right? Was he inspired by the rising popularity of cable t.v so much that he named his badass mutant Terminator after it? Please tell me it wasn't something that dumb.

Well, they also do a lot of trippy hallucinogenic drugs in the future. So I’m pretty sure Nathan was on weird future acid or something when he first came back and took that name. Does that help?

Changing it to X-tension Cord didn't help.

I figured it might be something like that but I was hoping for an embarrassing & silly justification of some sort from Liefeld.

Would Commander X had been better? I wish we would have seen where Liefeld was going with Cable. He had so many past connections to MU characters and was even a Vietnam vet. Oh well.
