A Cult Classic: Tales From The Hood ( I have seen this movie long ago. It's a underrated classic with a excellent performance from Clarence Williams as Mr. Simms.

    78. A Nightmare On Elm Street (1984) Wes Craven's classic supernatural slasher which introduced Freddy Krueger and launched one of the most successful horror franchises ever. That being said, the original is the only one I've ever liked, Freddy quickly devolved into cartoonishness and jokey one liners in the sequels, of course then the 2010 remake goes the opposite direction by trying to be more gritty and realistic, and make Freddy more threatening, and nobody thought that was a good idea.

    79. Suspiria (2018) A loose remake that basically uses Dario Argento's 1977 original as a framework for its own ends, personally I find this version much more engaging, and certainly more horrifying, than the first.

I may possibly have one or two more before I call it a night.

    31a. Friday the 13th (2009)
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friday...th_(2009_film)

First time watching this one, and it was okay. It felt VERY much of its time, in a way that I’m not really skilled enough to put into words. Certainly better than some entries in the original series. Stupid ending, though.

31b. Land of the Dead (2005)
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_of_the_Dead

While not a match for the first three films in Romero’s Dead series, this is really still a very decent entry. Big Daddy may even be tied with Bub for my favorite zombie in the series.

31c. Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hallow...n_of_the_Witch

This much-maligned sequel is a fun watch, if you can divorce it from its place in the franchise. I find myself wishing Carpenter could have spun Michael Meyers into his own series of sequels, and kept Halloween as an anthology series, introducing new ideas each year.

    31d. The Raven (1963)
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Raven_(1963_film)

This really isn’t a horror movie in any meaningful sense; it’s like a comedic version of Doctor Strange (for which this film was actually an inspiration). But it’s Roger Corman and Vincent Price, plus Boris Karloff, so screw it.

I’ll probably watch a few more movies before going to sleep, but that’ll be my last entry. Thanks again to Jared for keeping this going, and Happy Halloween, everyone!

    80. Trick R Treat (2007) Halloween themed anthology comprised of four overlapping, nonlinear stories detailing events which occur in the fictional town of Warren Valley, Ohio on October 31st.

    81. Gojira (1954)The Japanese language original, and the one film from the nearly 70 year franchise which can truly be considered horror.

    October 31st. 65 - Trick or Treat (1986) 66 - Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948). 67 - The Guest (2014).

Trick or Treat started pretty well but loses momentum in the second half. It's sort of a cross between 976-Evil and Shocker. When a bullied teen's rock idol dies in a fire, he is gifted his last record. When he plays it backward, he gets messages to enact supernatural vengeance that soon escalate out of hand.

Ozzy Osborne and Gene Simmons have cameo roles, so don't be fooled into think they star in it as some box art might suggest. I think the movie would be much more memorable if one of them, or some other rock star, had played the villain.

This didn't really work for me. There were some jokes that were good, mostly about Costello reacting to things, but I wasn't very engaged.
I don't know why they didn't call this "...Meet Dracula" since that's the driver of the plot. Poor Wolfman, last we saw him he had been cured, but I guess it didn't take.

I liked this a lot. Same writer and director team that made You're Next, which was great, and Blairwitch, which I'm sure they regret. In late October, a soldier comes home from Iraq to visit the family of a fallen comrade. It sounds like it could be the setup of a weepy post war domestic drama but it's not. Dan Stevens is fantastic in it. It has a lot of synthwave music similar to Drive, but this is a very different movie in tone and pace. I wish I saw this years ago.

Quote Haggis: You're a fool, Ed Harley.

This is one of my favorite movies for reason that I cannot explain, I think mainly becasue it was such a surprise. I remember passing by it in the video rental store many times then finally watching it on light night TV and wished I would have watched it earlier. I at the lest watch it once a year.

Quote Billy: Lets carve a scary face this time.

I wanted to finish off with a Halloween theme and this one to me was perfect for it, I love how they made an anthology in to so connected but each story different. Sam was awesome and I wish that more movies would come out with him. I would definitely watch this movie again even if its just to catch how the stories are interwoven together.

I did it!! 31 for 31. This is the first year that I've done it. It was fun and defiantly look forwarded to doing it next year

    31. Plan 9 from Outer Space (1959) on Prime. Awful, this movie lives up to its reputation.
31.5. Halloween (1978) on AMC. Classic, not much else to say here.

Well I did it! With that said, its award season -

Best Scene - In Phantom Creeps, Bela Lugosi manaically tossing bombs out of a biplane and blowing up, among other things, the Hindenburg (yes the film maker had the balls to use actual disaster footage, two years after it happened)
Best Kill - Pickaxe to the head in In Twice Told Tales. Vincent Price taking a pickaxe to his in-movie sister. Didn't see that coming.
Best Dance Sequence - Sound of Horror, teen boogaloo dance sequence
Best Transformations into a Monster - Vampire Circus Cat Man Dude and Bat Twins (a tie)
Best Vampires - Lost Boys Vamps
Most Scary Monster - Michael Myers in Halloween (Original)

Best Actor (Female) - Linnea Quigley as "Suzanne" in Night of the Demons
Best Motion Picture - The Blob

Shin Godzilla might be horror, too. At least it's closer than any others.

I almost watched that one, but ran out of time. I should make an effort to see it while it's still on Amazon.

I did consider Shin Godzilla for a while before posting my comment, but it really didn't give me that much of a horror vibe, though I have not seen it since the theatrical release and my opinion could be different with a second viewing.

You should! Its one of the greats for Hammer, just an excellent story and great vampires. Heavy on the nudity, not that there's anything wrong with that!
