I'd say Marvel, the 80's belonged to the X-Men. So much so it seemed like every indy superhero book of the 90's was an X-men knock-off.

Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing is one of the best comics ever written. Just on that alone I give it to DC. Plus the start of Vertigo with books like Doom Patrol. No surprise Marvel out sold them in the 80s, but as far as significance to comics and pop culture, it’s DC all the way.

Crisis on Infinite Earths, New Teen Titans, Legion of Superheroes, Byrne’s Superman, Perez’ Wonder Woman, etc

Marvel definitely takes the 60s, 70s, and 90s.

At this point, Swamp Thing by Moore hasn't made as much of a dent in popular culture as Guardians of the Galaxy. Were it to be released in a mainstream film, people would call Swampy, the serious Groot. Gaiman's Sandman, ditto.

Swamp Thing has been influential artistically on many writers and artists definitely but I wouldn't call it a defining work of popular culture by any means. Certainly nothing like X-Men.

This. Now, the storytelling aspect I mos def have to give to DC. But I was 9 when Watchmen came out and that wasn't the wave. I appreciate it now but even then it's kind of like giving the industry credit when that was what, in a way, was supposed to do or be at that time, right? The more adult themed stuff was great but the 80s sill had a huge young reader component to it. The last decade that ever occurred, so for me it's a Jim Shooter vs. Crisis, look Crisis was great but I wasn't real into it's impact on DC. Shooter got G.I. Joe and Transformers and those comics lines alone brought tons of us my age into comics. Not Cap, not Spidey but a toyline that was marketed as a comic too, Marvel in big way for me.
Beefing up the old home security, huh?
    You bet yer ass.

The 80s only had two Beyonder stories. The Secret Wars maxi series and the Secret Wars II event.

Yeah, punk-rock Storm pretty much gave the 80s to Marvel.

And yeah, I think the concept of the Beyonder as a character absolutely blew my mind, as a kid.

As far as sales, Marvel. X-men dominated. As far as long term impact on the superhero genre, DC. Watchman and DKR ushered in the Grim and Gritty era of comics which pretty much lasted into the 2000’s and still has a presence today (The Boys owes a lot to Watchman).
