Default Giant Size X-men: Tribute to Wein and Cockrum

Anyone get this? Its a remake of GSX so if you've read that book, then you know the classic story.

I didnt realize it was going to be a complete recreation of GSX panel for panel but it was and worked quite well. The art was gorgeous and they kept the text. Here are some comparison shots

It certainly shows how skilful and talented Dave was, particularly the emotion in that scene with Polaris in the rain.

yeah the re-creation looks like fan-art compared to the original.

I love the idea of the tribute issue and it was all done in good spirits so not gonna rag on it too much. The original Giant Size X-Men is legendary so always good to get a refresher on it!

I like Brooks’ art but the extra sheen on the coloring is not my favorite.

Agreed, Ororo in particular, looks strangely shiny.
    Nice, acrobatic looking Kurt though.

While modern coloring is obviously superior in capabilities, in terms of actual lines, Cockrum's work really stands the test of time. Some of these artists should be ashamed of themselves.

I really hope the MCU adapts this story for their X-Men and that Len and Dave's wives get a cut. This story holds up well.

I’d really, really like to see Dave’s art recoloured by a talented modern colour artist.

I think it is worth me saying something given past comments I made.

I didn't think I could trust Marvel to retain Lorna's role in this tribute given past Marvel behavior. Marvel has a history of things like redrawing a House of M portrait in Children's Crusade in 2010 to remove Lorna, saying in Deadly Genesis in 2006 that Jean threw Krakoa into space instead of Lorna, etc. So I'm glad to see they really did keep everything as it was with new art.

I think Lorna's facial expressions come off different in this new art than the originals. She looks tougher and more mature to me in the originals than in the new art. I'm not saying the art is "bad" or that it's a big deal. I'm just saying how it looks to me. It could be argued that all the characters generally looked more mature than they should have in the original comic given their ages.
