Default When you picture each X-Men, who is the artist?

Who is your definitive artist for each character? I was surprised by some of my answers -

Cyclops - Paul Smith or Jim Lee
    Archangel - Simonson
    Iceman - Andy Kubert
    Jean - Byrne
    Beast - George Perez tbh
Wolverine - Byrne or Adam Kubert
    Colossus - Smith
    Nightcrawler - Smith
    Storm: Paul Smith
    Rogue - Jim Lee
    Gambit - Jim Lee
    Magneto - Jim Lee
    White Queen - Cassaday
    Kitty Pryde - Smith
    Bishop - Romita Jr.
    Havok - Neal Adams
    Xavier - Andy Kubert
    Psylocke - Jim Lee
    Jubilee - Jim Lee
    Dazzler - Silvestri
    Longshot - Adams of course
    Stepford Cuckoos - Bachalo
    Magik - Bachalo
    Cannonball - Capullo

I was surprised how few of these were Andy Kubert or Joe Mad who were the two artists at the peak of my reading. I am simply in awe of what an impression the From the Ashes trade made on me as Paul Smith might be my definitive X-Men artist despite his limited run and Byrne and Lee casting such large shadows.

If Pepe Larraz gets to be a solid backbone of the HOX era he might make it on the list. I simply adore his art and think he's just magic on the X-books.

    Excellent question!

    Cyclops - Byrne, solid, dependable.
Archangel - Neal Adams but liked Smith’s Angel too
    Iceman - Adams
Jean - Byrne, Emma Peel, A Touch of Brimstone nuff said
    Beast - Byrne
Wolverine - Cockrum nasty brutish and short, I accept nothing over 5’3”
Colossus - Byrne, all the muscle
Nightcrawler - Davis. Always. Legs, endless, long muscular legs... sorry, distracted for a moment.
Storm: Cockrum? Byrne? But then there’s Smith’s iconic punk Ororo? This is a hard one. Cockrum.
Rogue - Jim Lee, cute and sassy
    Gambit - Jim Lee
    Magneto - Cockrum
White Queen - Byrne’s Faye Dunaway
Kitty Pryde - Byrne, Sigourney Weaver mini me
Havoc - Neal Adams, all the power
Polaris - Adams too, but Cockrum did well by her
    Xavier - Byrne
Psylocke - Davis, mostly because of the early Captain Britain’s, I still saw her as Betsy, never could separate them.
Jubilee - Jim Lee, more sass and spirit
Dazzler - Byrne, who can forget disco roller skates?
Longshot - Adams, the other Adams, obviously

    Crap, I’m old.

Storm's most iconic artists are Cockrum, Silvestri, and Coipel. Respect to Byrne for the tweaked design of her diadem that became the standard, Smith for the Callisto duel, and Adams and Davis for their many contributions over the years. Larroca, Pacheco, and Jimenez get honorable mentions too.

Wolverine's would be Lee, Kubert(Adam), and Silvestri.

Scott and Jean would be Byrne, no doubt.

For sure. Yu might be a distant 4th.

For Cable it's Liefeld, Capullo and Churchill.

Yu floated into my mind too, but yeah, not as concretely.

For Cable, Churchill is far and away the best, but the other two certainly have their historic importance.

I always tend to remember my favorite characters drawn by my favorite artists so for Betsy and Ororo is basically Silvestri, Lee, Mann, Opeña, Coipel and Dauterman.

In general, Jim Lee and Clay Mann... something about their styles... wow.

Whilce Portacio's Iceman and Bishop, rocked.

Liefeld's Cable and the insane amount of grit lines and pouches of course..

    Loved Silvestri's Wolverine.

    The Kuberts had their moments...

I would love to see Clay Mann return one day... give him some months head start to do an uninterrupted run. He had so many visual ideas in his head, Id love to see what else he could bring.
