Have the comics ever actually delved into Strange's family history that much? That might be an interesting plotline to see, if he had to travel back to his family's origins in Eastern Europe or Central Asia to investigate something or other.

If one went with the Sioux peoples angle you could have a story about his native American grandmother telling him as a boy that whether he likes it or not the old ways are strong in him and the great spirit within him will punish him if he rejects the holy path. However the very young Strange is bullied at school for his Native American Heritage and he turns away from all that "mumbo jumbo" to eventually grow up to be a top but hard hearted neurosurgeon. Was his latter car crash caused by the magic within him rectifying his wrong path in life?

Or if one went with the Slavic/Hungarian/Transilvanian angle, you could have a story where he traces a magic line in his ancestry to a ruined castle in Transilvania which turns out was owned by the Mordos! Dr Strange and Baron Mordo are related! loads of fun to be had.
