I have a question for those more knowledgeable on the ethnography of names.

Bao Pham's name, what ethnicity is this name meant to be for? Which is to say, what is Bao's ethnicity?

    It's a common Vietnamese surname

Thanks! Cool to have a Vietnamese-American character! (When was the last time we had one?)

The Graphic Novel Green Lantern: Legacy had two Vietnamese green lanterns and went into their family history. It's not canon to the main DC universe though.

You're right. (Still hope there's a sequel to that; too much potential there to just leave it one-and-done. Main DC universe nods/incorporations would be nice as well.)

Still, I kinda meant before that.

Cheshire is DC’s most known Vietnamese character.

    But of course, she’s evil.

The last couple CBR articles on Clownhunter are... How should I put this?

    They aren't the best.

I haven't bothered to read them, but Clownhunter isn't the best character, so...

I mean, he just has a bat bat and a torn school uniform. He's unlikely to last long in Gotham

What exactly is wrong with them?

As well as being an outdated, racist Dragon Lady stereotype.

I think Asian women are the demographic to be handled worst in DC.

Weird place to flex that, in an Appreciation Thread for the character in question. And also some silly nitpicks to hold against the character. And all in a medium where rich folks with no functional day-jobs unironically dress as bat-themed and other colorful, esoterically styled vigilantes and get away it, no less.

Wait, what? Who are you talking about? None of that second part of your post fits Bao Pham at all.

Also, while I chose not to link the articles on purpose, I am confused as to what you mean by the first part of your post. Is that to assume you've seen them, too, or not?

There are a lot of good ones, mostly half-Asian, like Cassandra Cain and Emiko.

But there’s Dr. Light, who isn’t in any way stereotypical martial arts based.

I wasn't referring to Bao Pham in my comment. I quoted Will Evans's post in my comment. How did you not see that?

Because, I admit, I thought you had quoted somebody else/someone else's post.

Cassandra Cain and Emiko wouldn't count as "Dragon Lady" characters because neither are villains/antagonists working for another (male) entity. Both are also more nuanced then the molds that house your average Dragon Lady. (And Emiko's no more "martials arts-based" then Green Arrow/Oliver Queen and Arsenal are.)
