Well, getting Rachel the Phoenix Sword (a power-up with which she has great synergyes) would have made things a fair bit harder.
It gives her high levels of arguable superspeed, enhances her telekinesis to levels in which she can do some pretty scary energy control and provides a very nice defensive aura.
Good game Hol. Sorry I wasn't on more to debate.
On the question of burning metals however, it's a thought/instant thing. Literally Clark can gain his boost as fast as he can think to do so. That's how it works in the books, you think to burn the metals and the power is yours. Thought activated, in other words.
