I guess it then gets into whether you change a character's profession, does it change the very essence of that character? Would public defender Sam Lane still be as controlling and obsessed with Lois being the son he never had?

That’s true. Although I don’t think Lucy has even shown up in anything recent has she? Has she showed up since the New 52? Did she show up in the New 52? I remember Lois had a niece Susie in Morrison’s run who I assumed was Lucy’s kid.

...I think she was mentioned but I can't for the life of me recall if she made an actual physical appearance.
