I think the plethora of non-essential tie-ins for a series serves to get readers of the stars of the tie-in book. Granted, it seems odd to have a Namor symbiote story, but a Namor tie-in can get Namor readers. We old folks called the "red sky" books from old Crisis on Infinite Earths tie-ins which connected with the story only due to a red sky in an almost unrelated to COIE issue.

It's annoying, but if the books are not important to the main plot, skipping can be helpful.

This isn't anything new. It's been like this with all events for probably a good decade now.

The minute you realize not every tie-in is important to the main story and to only read what you want, your enjoyment of it will be so much better.

As long as you don't HAVE to buy the tie-in to understand the story, they can make as many tie-ins as they want as far as I'm concerned.

It's a potentially nice way to give a few characters who normally don't get panel time in a monthly some love. A Namor tie-in to someone that isn't a Namor fan might feel unecessary, but if you are a Namor fan it's potentially good news. And if you're not, you can refrain from buying it and it's not your problem.

Tie-ins rarely even add to the main event, I remember the Venom War of the Realm tie-ins were only "This thing is happening, so lets have Eddie deal with some street stuff for 3 issues" and Spider-Man AC tie-in seemed more interested in furthering the ongoing Kindred story. Those are honestly the best tie-ins which is why I don't pick up minis or one-shots that tie into said events (except Doom and Iron-man one-shot, but that's because I'm reading Iron-Man currently).

Looking at the tie-in list, I'm surprised that for once in a long time, there's a number of comics I'm getting that will be part of the KIB event as opposed to just one or two.

But yeah, since Civil War, events have always had waaaay too many tie-ins.

    There was a Spider-Man Animal Crossing tie-in?

I don't mind one issue of an ongoing getting a tie-in like in the old days but the mini-series need a break.

Also Namor getting a King in Black mini instead of a Empyre or X of Swords is weird.

I for one don't mind the tie-ins. Most of the time they feature characters that don't appear in monthly titles. Like, I have no interest in this King in Black event, but I'll probably get the Black Knight tie-in because I like the character is the art is beautiful.

So long as you are reading the main event the Tie-ins are never essential. You can always skip them and you wont miss a thing but complaining about them seems unnecessary and just complaining for the sake of complaining.

This has been going on in one form or another since the first Secret Wars and Acts of Vengeance so I doubt Marvel or DC will stop doing it. You just prioritize in your purchases. I may not even buy King in Black anyway.

What about those cute Kree and Skrull kids the Fantastic Four found in that casino before "Empyre", and their fight against the Priests of Pama? All that ended at the climax of the story in the last issue of the main event.

And yes, I know that Jo-Venn and N'Kalla would kill me for saying that they are cute... but hey, they are.

I’m not sure I agree. So long as we’re not forced to buy tie-ins to understand the main story, I’m pretty happy. I actually prefer my tie-ins to be of a more tangential nature.

They used to be sporadic though. I think House of M started the yearly crossovers.

Yeah, I don't mind if current comics events are alluded to or are affected by an event. What I hate is if the series gets hijacked to the extent that I have to read extra books I don't care for to understanding things.
