    Default Favourite Spider-Man Covers

I’ll share mine when I have a little more time, but I just wanted to see a collection/thread of some fantastic covers of Spider-Man!

    Gleasons upcoming #55 looks gorgeous.

I have always disliked Alex Ross' art style and this is a good reason why.

In Kirby's immortal original, the expressions are more dynamic and clear, you can also see more emotion there. Even the criminals on the rooftops in the background. You can barely see them in Ross' work but more importantly Ross' liking for strong Norman Rockwell lighting means they aren't recognizable as criminals whereas in Kirby's it's clear. Likewise, in Kirby's it's clear that the guy Spider-Man is airlifting is a crook himself, whereas in Ross' it's no longer clear and it could be some random bystander. Kirby also draws Spider-Man's swinging stance boldly, so you can see the Spidey logo on his chest whereas in Ross' you can't see that anymore.

I have plenty of favorite covers, but since I can't post 'em all in a single post. I'll focus on three favorites that haven't been mentioned yet.

1 - Web of Spider-Man #32 also known as Kraven's Last Hunt Part 4 by Mike Zeck.

    Cover - KLH Part 4.jpg

Essentially whenever people think about KLH they think of this image. It's a cover that features and recreates stuff inside the comic and blazes it on front.

    2 - Amazing Spider-Man #28 by Steve Ditko.
    Cover - Ditko Molten Man.jpg

Ditko had to fight to get cover art duties since the first two issues had art by Kirby (AF#15...which don't get me wrong - flat out masterpiece), and his covers were often weird and striking, but this one is possibly the most creative and interesting cover. It's a pity that in-page Molten Man never got to look as cool and mysterious as this cover was.

    3 - Amazing Spider-Man #50 (V.2) by J. Scott Campbell aka "Doomed Affairs".

    Cover - JSC - Doomed Affairs.jpg

This is a very famous and often reproduced image by Campbell. Campbell has lately become known for his pinup cheesecake covers and it's forgotten that he could do covers as amazing as this.

The amber background shows the inspiration of the Sam Raimi movie posters but still this is a great design and look, and the warm hot colors conveys a sense of optimism and brightness that befits the mood of the story itself. This is a great cover that sells atmosphere.

    Other favorites:
    -- AF#15 by Jack Kirby
-- ASM#50 by John Romita Sr.
-- ASM #90 by John Romita Sr.
-- ASM Annual #21 by John Romita Sr.

among many others. I'll do another post with my personal favorite covers

As an aspiring comics artist and someone who's been drawing for 20 years, I can't tell you just how insanely difficult it is to pull off what Olivier Coipel does in this piece.
