Default Delightfully Over The Top Performances

A scenery chomping performance can be annoying. But. Occasionally an actor coming at you from the top rope can be a treasure.

I don't think I ever saw a better example of that than Kyle McLaughlin's Mr. Hyde.

He's delightfully/annoyingly unhinged all the way thru his run, teasing the monster to come. Then, he manages to be both campy and terrifying when manifested. No small feat.

Your pick? Who left you wondering how they could possibly have flossed out all that scenery they chewed?

I think Mr. Hyde is minor compared to some stuff. Jonathan Harris's portrayal of Dr. Smith in the original Lost in Space was so over the top as to defy belief. The irony is that the show was well on its way to cancelation until he started playing it more and more campy. Then he started getting most of the fan mail and the ratings started vastly improving.

    Also...

Best one of these in recent memory would be Val Kilmer/Doc Holiday/Tombstone.

The only reason I watch that movie is for him. I love the scene where the sheriff gets shot and the town wants to string him up. And Val pulls his gun. Just the lines he spits out in that scene.

And of course this thread would not be complete without Adam West Batman!

This one is a keeper. Bonus points for the person in question not being an actor, and doing it without so much as uttering a single word...

I don't know if this counts, but my choice is Michael Keaton in Much Ado About Nothing (1993):

I was going to do a thread about Cape Fear 91 and how it sucks to the 1962 orirngal. but I assumed many may not even know the movie.

this movie is just ...YUCK. Its Martin Scorsese at his worst.

Robert Deniro is so over the top to the point of cartoony. the 1962 movie with Robert Mitchum as Max Cady was way better, what sucks is Robert Deniro got an oscar nomination and Micthum did not.
