Given that Bond is basically MGM's only property i can understand why they didn't want to sell it cheaply. But it doesn't bode well for $250+ million budget movies, as clearly streaming services feel like they can justify those kinds of budgets based on their business model (granted, $600 million is a lot more than $250 mil). OTOH it may just be that Bond is viewed as a pretty tired property at this point, and perhaps netflix or apple would've ponied up for a hotter property like Fast and Furious or something. I dunno
Bond has had his license to print money for a long time, and has made more the older it gets.

Harry Potter, Star Wars, and Marvel are the only ones ahead of it.

That's the thing, they keep waiting for theaters to open so they could potentially make more money, but the longer they wait, the lower the potential is. Might as well bite the bullet and put it on itunes for like $30 or $40.

I'd def do it for $30. $40 is pushing it for me, though.
Keep in mind that you have about as much chance of changing my mind as I do of changing yours.

The trailers seem to suggest that Bond has retired and so his number went to another agent who was a woman. Presumably Bond might regain his 007 status at some point maybe. (Maybe the new 007 dies and gives her number back to him before she does). Has Bond either quit in Casino Royale or "stayed dead" in Skyfall it's possible his 00 would also be sent to another agent.

There is some basis for this, although it's mostly from the older Bond movies which aren't really part of Craig's canon.

-Thunderball and The World Is Not Enough both show at least one women at the briefings with other 00s.

-There's two 002s, one who is killed at some point before The Man With The Golden Gun and another who is quickly paintballed in Living Daylights.

-Ditto with 009. The clown guy at the beginning of Octopussy is killed whereas another 009 in The World Is Not Enough was sent after Renard.

Are you sure SPECTRE was delayed? SKYFALL ran into a few bumps because of some rights or distribution issues (EW even had a "Goodbye, Mr. Bond?" cover in 2010 I think) but eventually was rolled out in time for the anniversary.

I had a memory that it was, but in retrospect there was only a three year gap after Skyfall. so not sure what I was thinking of. Probably was thinking of Skyfall (which I like, even though it seems to be a bit marmite).

They can't afford for it to not be a hit. Eon don't have the deep pockets of other studios, and the only other film they produced in the last three years was a flop.

Pretty much this. They can’t afford to experiment with streaming.
