So I have this problem at my local comic shop that when I buy new comics they don't give me bag & board. Is that a usual thing or should I be asking for that?

there's no rule that a shop must supply a bag & board.
many stores DO offer that as an incentive (just as some shops offer a "subscription" discount, and some online places offer all of the above).
if you aren't getting a bag and board with your purchases? ASK the shop person if it's something you can arrange to get.
They might charge you for it, or they might just say "no"
but that gives you the option to take your business elsewhere.
but the very *first* thing you should do? Inquire about it with your shop.

None of the comic stores in my life have given me B+B with new comics, just back issues.
Never went to a store that gave bags and boards. They would sell you them, sure, but never give them away.
Hope is not lost today. It is found.
Heck, I am so happy my store finally moved to a location with running water!
My LCS offers them, but I always decline because I already buy my own packs of both. Plus, the bags they give out are just the regular kind you would have to tape shut and I prefer the resealable kind.
Oh, and I remembered that another store (which I hardly ever go to) also offers them. They keep a stack right on the counter, and whether you're buying one book or ten, they bag-and-board each one like it's an automatic service.
The small store in my old town did, was kinda surprised when Forbidden Planet didn't but, I'll live.
My LCS offers them as part of their subscription service for an additional fee. Otherwise, you can just buy them separately at the store.

Thing is, I realized 99.9% of my comic books will never increase in value, so why should I waste nature's resources on bags 'n' boards?
Thanks Guys that was really helpful. I'll just ask about getting them.
I've never had a shop give them free with new comics, either. One shop did use to add them for a quarter.
My store provides them for all of the comics on your pull list. So basically like a subscription service. Any additional titles I pick up off of the rack I have to buy the bag and board for 10 cents.
Seems like all the shops I go to in SLC either bag and board everything or will give you one if you buy something that isn't. I don't even remember going to any shops out of state that didn't. The only time I get something that isn't is when I buy cheap books off My Comic Shop. The way they package is incredible so it's not a deal breaker.
