Default Other than Chuck Austin - What's your Least Favorite Era for the X-Men?

(This is inspired by some posts in the controversial opinions thread)

I was curious what you guys and girls think was the worst extended stretch for the X-Men as a franchise (outside of Chuck Austin because that's obviously the answer otherwise). I don't mean in terms of sales but in terms of your preference and assessment of quality.

I've tried to break it down into the eras I think of as being the most derided.

    1. The Silver Age issues between Jack Kirby and Neal Adams

    2. The Post Siege Perilous "No Team" era circa UXM 264

    3. The Onslaught/Operation Zero Tolerance end of Scott Lobdell era

    4. The Alan Davis "The Twelve" Era

    5. Claremont's first return and "Revolutions"

    6. Utopia to AvX

    7. Bendis' UXM and All-New X-Men

    8. Living in Limbo Extraordinary X-Men

    9. X-Men Gold/X-Men Blue

I think my answer is actually the Jeff Lemire Extraordinary X-Men run. I really did not care for it and dropped almost all the X-Books around this time for the first time ever. I did not really come back until HoxPox. So that would be my answer

I would say Utopia and Blue/Gold are worse than Austen because it was so dull.

Everything from Schism to Uncanny (2019). Just hot garbage that kept bouncing between bogglingly dull and insultingly bad.

I would say Schism til Rosenberg's Uncanny and Age of X-Man....There were moments that were good...but for the most part it was just blech...lowest point for me was Inhumans vs X-Men/Death of X times

Guggenheim and Rosenberg’s UXM takes the cake. Thank heavens DoX washed all that away Stat.

I would say IvX but strangely the only thing I remember from that event was the cool team up of Emma and Dazzler taking down Blackbolt. I wiped my mind clean of everything before and after that since I don’t process bad biases writing.

I replied other because there's no 'Grant Morrison Era' as an answer...

I supposed there was probably some overlap between Austen on Uncanny and New X-Men anyway.

Any 'flagship' title from From Extraordinary through to Rosenberg's Uncanny were generally bad (outside of X-Men Red), but at least we had some great mini-series in that era.

    Bendis.
    Is that a thing? Bendis?
    yeah Bendis.
Voting Bendis - is that a thing?
    It's the thing.
    The guy from the FF?
No that's The Thing, this is just a thing
    About Bendis?
    A thing?
    Yeah. Bendis.
    It's a thing?
    Yeah, Bendis is a thing.

(And yes I know this post should have been stretched out to six-to-eight posts for a real Bendis feel, I just didn't want to spam)

I think Jason Aaron run on i think Astonishing was a dud. I was excited for it, it had a great artist and then we got what we got. Interesting team, good promo, and then it happened. The x-men in hell. It was a mess. I really can't think of another run that i actively just thought was outright bad.

It was amazing X-men. Nothing about it was amazing.

My vote is Gold/Blue through Rosencanny. Legacy was still running through early Utopia and Gillen was writing Uncanny during the entire Schism through to just after AvX. I picked the era with the fewest bright spots (those being the adult Jean Grey returning - her fans might put this era higher than me just for this, but for me those were too short) in it.

    1 Rosenberg
    2 Casey
    3 Milligan
    4 Austen
    5 Fraction

Rosenberg era was trash all around. At least with austen you had other books that were good and the 90's era post lobell was campy and had some good characterisation, it's just the plots that were extremely convoluted and dull. But Rosenberg was just such a waste of time and rosenberg was so smug and condesending about the garbage he was delivering.

The EXM era, they just couldn't leave my boy alone. I'd consider everything from EXM through Rosenberg terrible to varying degrees, but EXM gets my vote.
    Does it need doing?
    Yes.
    Then it will be done.
